good point, i was about to tear the idea apart until i read yours. I've been in some pretty scary driving situations, snowstorms/heavy fog being the worst i think.
i'm always hesitant to embrace something like thit (think of it, you're putting you're life in the hands of a line on your windshield), but that probably would have given me some peace of mind.
some line is better than no line.

Even if it can't be turned off, any HUD I've ever heard of can have the intensity adjusted so that it becomes nearly invisible

Throttle by wire is F16 technology as well... most of those by-wire systems are. Originally teh F16 didnt even have a moveable stick, you just pulled on it and it went, they had to build movement into it as a feedback to the pilot.
