Bill, it would suck (for me) to live in an area that uses speed cameras. They don't have any in my area (that I'm aware of).

The one's that do are dedicated VMT cars and you're talking 1-2 cars for the entire force.
Yeah I resurrected it, why start a new thread when people have discussed this before?

Speeding is a choice, I suppose. In 40 years of driving I've not had any tickets BECAUSE I am an above average driver. You see, a good driver knows the rules and runs by them. I'm glad I do also, because otherwise I would not be able to afford insurance on my 11 performance cars that I have right now.
I did not say who is a bad driver, just stating that speed limits are set for below average drivers. I did not state that anyone who drives the speed limit is average or below average. I only stated that going slightly over the speed limit does not make you an unsafe driver.

That is most likely not true - probably only a very small amount think they are above average and drive too fast. Otherwise we would have a lot more wrecks. The problem lies with bad drivers driving below the speed limit and the other drives trying to get around them.

After reading all the accident threads on here I would beg to differ...
As I said people driving too fast for conditions.

Driving to fast for conditions is another topic as going the speed limit could be driving to fast for conditions. Just read an accident thread involving new driver - did not say the other driver who caused the accident was going to fast, my guess was texting while driving and went in wrong lane.

being a fairly aggressive driver i thought i would need a unit. I purchased a escort passport 9500ix.

about a month later i sold it. I drove by police MANY times and it did not alert me. This made me feel the product was not really worth it unless you travel on the freeway and are trying to avoid speed traps.

If you driving is primarily in the city streets you will just get a bunch of false signals 99% of the day. It will false signal you to the point you disregard it and when a real trap is picked up you become soo nullified of false signals you ignore the damn thing all together.

I opted to sell it and get my cash back and pay closer attention to my surroundings. This is how it ended up for me.

I get about 23 to 26 with the cruise on at 85.

I have an Escort Passport Max 2... all I can say, WOW! If there is anything running radar a mile around me, it's going off. It knows what is a permanent signal(GPS), so it flags them so it doesn't read them in the future... if a different signal is at the same spot, it'll start chirping... no false alarms. It gentle warns of overspeeding...

Laser/LIDAR isn't run here as much as it is in TX.

I still stay visually active when using my RD (I also ride a motorcycle, so try to stay aware of my surroundings to be proactive).

Mine has been paid for already... several times over. Does this mean I speed all the time... pretty much... 5mph over is speeding in any court.
