2ss Automatic ...Wheres the Beef ?
Bought a new 2SS L99 car a few weeks back
Been driving rather conservative like the break in proccess in the manual. Not going over 80 mph or over 4000 rpm no Wide open Throttle. So today its a little over 800 miles. Take off rather aggressive hit 4000 in 1st click to 2nd and go to half throttle,,, then think "what the H ,go for it",, mash the pedal all the way down Very little difference from 50% to 100% ,, at least below 4000 rpm. So I back off and go to 3rd.:( Reminded me of the Old Smokey and the Bandit 79 Trans Am I used to have, tons of low end torque off the line then flat lined about 4000. Does it get alot better if you run the tach up to 6000? Still got a ways to go on the break-in , but a dissapointment for sure. As a reference, my current other cars 2004 GTP Supercahrged Grand Prix. 2007 STS-V Cadillac with Supercharged 4.4 litre 470HP Prior cars 2002 WS6 Trans Am. 1998 Pace Car Corvette 1989 Turbo V-6 Trans am Ect Ect back to 1974 Super Duty 455 Trans Am. |

My SS doesn't really pull hard until past 4K, keep it in the top of the RPM range for best results. |

Some of it could just be the auto tranny. I've noticed that sometimes it won't downshift even if you floor it; it just runs out whatever gear you're in, sometimes giving a lackluster performance. For example, I'm waiting at a light to turn left onto an on ramp. I turn the corner and can't floor it of course, so I give it moderate throttle. Then once I'm straight, I can step on it and it revs up, but it will just stay in 2nd gear. I'm assuming this is because my speed/revs are too high for it to downshift back into first.
Anyway, long story short, it might be best to just floor it. That way you're making your intentions clear to the computer. That is, you want it to downshift as much as possible and GO Also, try paddle shifting. That way you can be in the gear you want, when you want. Lots of fun Finally, the stock tune is pretty conservative and torque management is a real bummer. A tune for the auto tranny really wakes up that 6.2L beast under the hood. The "beef" is there. GM just really neutered it from the factory, IMO.

Find a nice secluded spot, just put it in SPORT mode, don't use the paddle shifters, hit the gas, and let her unwind!

I have an Auto 2SS and if you are at a standing stop and you floor it and don let up you will feel the power don't quit at 4k go all the way and you will be a lot happier.

I got a question what happens if you dont wait till 5k miles to get on it. I had a little over 1200 and could not pass up a good race.

I got the V6 but I assume its the shifting.
I agree to go with the padded shifters and leave it in a gear for a while longer. Engines are already broken in from the factory and 800 is ok to get it up there (my guess). |
