Personally, I use a carnuba because it is quicker to apply. No need to come back hours later and do another wipe down. Just put it on and take it off. Also, my car is garaged and doesn't get exposed to all the elements like a daily driver does. Thus, I don't need any serious protection because of the limited use the car gets during extreme weather conditions.

Carnuba's are probably more expensive merely due to the manufacturing process.

A sealant like Adam's Machine Superwax. Any quality sealant will work, however, Machine Superwax is the only one that I have tried and know for a fact that it works.

If you are swapping from one product group to another i.e.... Mother's to Adam's would you Dawn wash the car or just clay it?

I just washed and clayed. No Dawn. The clay is going to remove any wax on the car.

You could do either but Dawn is much faster.

Dawn won't always remove all wax though. If its still beading, its still there somewhat.

Oh yes Dawn will! That abrasive stuff takes grease off a car just like it does on dishes. If you thoroughly wash a car with Dawn, It will strip everything.

Hey Junkman I am currently a die hard meguiar's user, but I am curious about Adam's products. Which products do you recommend to use to get swirls and minor scratches out of paint? Do these products need a lot of pressure applied to them like Meguiar's Scratch X and Swirl X? Thanks for any feedback

I have washed numerous cars that took more than one wash with Dawn to remove all the wax. I didn't know it was abrasive...thought it was all chemical? The alkaline content is what strips the wax. What abrasives does it have?

All of your questions and concerns are answered in detail within my many video series. You can watch them all by going here. Most of them are stickies, but that little corner of Adam's Forums is where all my stuff is stored.

Maybe abrasive is not the proper word. Maybe I should say harsh because there is nothing abrasive in Dawn that I know of. I first found out about how much of a wax stripper Dawn is back in the 80's, when I stripped all the wax off my freshly waxed car. I learned then how harsh that stuff is and never made that mistake again unless I meant to.

Maybe you don't use as much of that stuff as I do when I want to strip the wax away. I am very liberal with how much I use. When I wash a car with that stuff, the paint is actually dull when I finish. That is some really harsh stuff.

I use about 2 ounces per gallon, which is a lot considering I'm using their concentrated version.

All I'm saying is not all waxes are equally vulnerable to Dawn, some are more resistant than others. That being said, I've never had a problem with removing wax with Dawn or clay. Don't mean to hijack the thread :(

Well, I can't say that I've tried it on every wax there is, just that it left the paint good and naked whenever I've used it. I never measure how much I use, I just put a big ol' squirt of it in a bucket and go at it.
