I disagree completely. Product, product, product. That's how you compete and win. Look at Hyundai/Kia, they built cheap and unreliable shitboxes. Now they're a threat to their Japanese rivals and in many circles considered an equal to Toyota and Honda.

GM needs to address the svc. department issues too but if they design a product to not just compete, but exceed the competition, just watch Chevy beat the imports.

I think GM/Ford Chrysler have and edge, as IMO people want to buy American, they just need a reason.

The current Malibu is far from a shit box. The sales aren't terrible, just not top in class. The issue is perception and getting people into the dealership to even test drive one.

I don't see anything they can/will do in a redesign that will change that. People just think "Camry" and "Accord" when they're shopping mid class. Until THAT changes, the best the Malibu can aspire to be is third or fourth fiddle. It's kinda like incumbents in politics - they mostly get reelected by name, not by accomplishments.

Looking at that top 6 objectively, there's just not much wiggle room in there. Competition is stiff. ALL off those cars are decent vehicles. Going back to my first reply, the fact the Camry is still #1 only supports the idea that the market is just stuck on stupid right now. IMO it's the least value among that entire group.

I like the new Malibu. If I was looking for a new car, I'd check it out. I wonder how if compares to my Regal GS?

Definitely the LTZ, the 2.0T is a nice engine match for the Malibu and when fully loaded it's a fine ride.

Yeah this is going to be a good looking car. Also agree with whoever said something about not seeing what people see in the Camry. There will never be a more vanilla vehicle period.

Read again...that's not what he said when talking about the Malibu.

Anyways, the last gen Malibu was a huge success.

This latest gen wasn't.

Hopefully this one will go back in that direction in sales terms.

I hated the existing model. That middle console traps you so you have very little space.
I'm glad I got rid of it when I rented it.

The Impala is BIG ENOUGH ! jeez, sit in that thing and the dash is like being on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise.

Is this new Malibu based on the Alpha platform as well?

No, its on the E2XX platform which replaces the epsilon platform. Alpha is rwd platform only. Malibu is FWD.
