2LT first oil change today--not happy

OK, I have 1030 miles in 24 days. So I take her to the local Chevy dealer for her first oil change, and to have them fix the hanging overhead console light assembly. Couple hours later it's ready and I pick it up. They fixed the light. But when I get home, I'm looking at the receipt and the first thing I notice is they charged me for 5 quarts of oil. I know it takes 6. Then I go on the Internet and look up the oil they show they put in it, 12345616 Goodwrench oil. Looks to me like it is 10W30. So that's wrong--should be 5W30. If the Chevy dealer can't get it right, who do I trust? Did they even change the oil?? How would I know? I checked it and it is full, and it is very clean, almost no color at all.

Next, I can't find this filter they say they used-- CFI 840890 C Q Filter for $4.24. Is that a CarQuest filter? The receipt said they did a 21 point inspection, but they didn't fill up my windshield washer fluid. It's nearly empty! So either they are stupid enough to think I wouldn't know the difference, or they are so stupid they don't know how to do it right.

Many years ago, when I was in my late 20s, I changed my own oil because I couldn't afford to pay to have it done. Now I'm 61, and I'm going back to changing it myself--because I can't trust anyone with my car. What the heck, the neighbors already think I'm a crazy old lady with my new Camaro, washing it, dusting it, or wiping the bugs off on a daily basis, they might as well see me changing the oil!!

Would you take it back and ask them to redo it? Let it go and change it myself in another 500 miles?

I'm disgusted.

I'm usually not one to complain, but I'd take it back and raise heck with the manager. Show him the wrong grade especially, and tell him everything you've said here. Good luck!

Those are just more reasons why I do everything that I possibly can myself. It sucks that you need to spend thousands of dollars for laptops and programs to work on new cars. It's getting harder and harder except for the good old oil changes and brake jobs. I'd sure go back and complain.

I can't seem to let myself trust some guy working minimum wage at the local service center. Too many mishaps or near mishaps over the years.

At 61 I might feel differently. I'd ask my neighbor for help before taking a car in to a service center. Now I personally see to routine maintenance on all three of my vehicles. Sleep better at night that way!

I called and made sure my place could get the right filter and I told them the number of quarts. They verified on their computer. They also let me get out in the shop under the car to check it out.

You'd think you wouldn't have to check these out with the dealer.

Take it back and get some answers! They probably think you're just an older woman and you wouldn't know the difference. I would give them a piece of my mind if I were you.

That totally sucks if they tried to get one over on you. My wife hates going to car dealers just because of stuff like that. She says they think they can take advantage of a woman. I would definitely go back and ask. Let's hope it's a case of a stock receipt (with wrong information) and a missed washer fill.
