To me it all depends on what you want to do. If you want a fast car under warranty then yea go for it. If you want power you could build something that makes more power for a lot less than the cost of a zl1. I know there are major differences in the suspension but that can be taken care of with aftermarket coilovers. However the zl1 is a great platform to build a beast, so it's up to you whatever direction you go it won't be in the wrong.

Do it if you can financially. But my opinion, look for a new leftover...they're out there.

Also remember that upgrading an SS to meet or beat a ZL1 is going to cost you way more than just starting with a ZL1 platform... I know a few ZL1's that got a new pulley with a tune and are making 700.. Getting an SS to 700 is going to take a ton more money... Also, the stock diff with handle 1000hp so you don't have to upgrade that like you would on an SS (that's and extra 5k for the parts btw). Brakes are bigger, yet another expensive upgrade on the SS.. Trust me, a ZL1 may look like an SS but they are totally different animals stock.. If you can afford the extra monthly payment and insurance, go for it.. |

I would personally go for the new Stingray instead of the ZL1.

A supercharger will be about $7K installed. $150 more a month times 36 months(assuming you still owe 3 years) = $5400. Buy the ZL1, it makes mor sense financially, and your getting a better platform later for upgrades. Decision is easy.

I just traded my 2010 2SSRS for a 13 ZL1 and it was a great decision! My wife and I are amazed at the difference in the ride alone, not to mention in the power.
My original plan was to supercharge my SS and I am sooo glad I went with the ZL1. If you added more HP to your SS then you need to consider changing, axles, drive shaft, gears, suspension parts etc. The Z has it from the factory. Good luck with decision!! ZL1, you save up for a pulley cams and a ported snout and you will have a really high horsepower car!!! and you cant beat the magnetic ride control.

If you can do it with your finances then go for it, if that's what you really want.
