Borla S Type CatBack Exhaust - Backfire?

Hi All,

I recently put on a New Borla Cat Back Exhaust Kit on my 2011 Camaro and noticed recently a lot of Backfire. Typically when I downshift ... Is this normal? Will it go away as exhause cures? Is this something I should be concerned about?

BTW ... Sounds Awesome! Just a little concerned ...

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

FK

Its normal, especially during a downshift.

I'm thinking of getting that one, too. Is it wake-the-neighbors or alert-the-police loud?
And what's the advantage to getting the cat-back one vs. the rear-only one?

I've had the Catback for about 5k miles now (different car but same thing) and it backfires all the time. Not sure if it will happen to you but I backfire when I'm close to red line and when I down shift.

Nightspore68....
Difference from my understanding is performance and sound. Of course I sell wheels and am just chiming in from my experience.

I don't think is has a wake-the-neighbors or alert-the-police loud. Just a nice deep growl. I love the way it sounds! You won't be disappointed :-).

The S-Type isn't going to be too loud especially if your running stock headers. I usually recommend people go with the ATAK if they know they wont be upgrading their headers and the S-Type if they are going add headers.

Also If your just looking to improve the exhaust note I would go with an axle-back system. If you want the most performance and might upgrade your headers down the road then you may want to go with a cat-back system.

You are experiencing decel pop, which is normal on the V8s, especially the LS3 and is further enhanced by after market exhaust. It's because of fuel shut off during deceleration to pass your government's CAFE standards.

+1.....That backfire/popping has always been there. More noticeable with aftermartket exhaust.

what if you let off and then tap gas would that cause a little poot sound. I just got a new 3" kooks catback so I am noticing this sound now. Almost like a delay/dud/poot then it rolls right into the exhaust note.

The cats play a big part of that as well, the massive 700 cell quad converters we have on these cars is for lack of a better word dumb....

My L99 has tons of decel pop on a Magnaflow 3" comp catback. If you really want to get it going just downshift yourself using the paddles.

I just put the Borla Atak on my 2010 SS along with a Airraid CAI and boy its a different animal. I agree with a previous member though as its not necessarily a neighbor annoyance unless your revving and cooking down the block at bedtime... But an awesome growl and based on my experience go with the ATAK!!!!
