Dear Camaro friends,

My year is almost 5 years old and so I need to flush out and replace the coolant soon. However, I can't seem to find step by step directions. I tried searching online and there's talk of a need to "burp" the car and so on, but it varies between models.

Anyway, can someone please direct me or post step by step directions for draining, flushing and filling procedures? I can't even figure out how much coolant the car needs.

I do it with a few gallons of distilled water.

Drain it, fill back up with distilled water. Run it for a few minutes. Drain it again.

Since there is some water in there not coming out, I fill it back up with about 75% dexcool/25% distilled water. Shooting for a 5050 mix.

Doing all that with a relatively cold engine. Really don't want to be draining or filling a hot engine with cold water.

To burp it once back full... engine still fairly cool... Have the rad full, and overflow tank full to the cold mark. Have some 50/50 ready to add. Have someone start the car and hold the throttle at around 1500 to 2000 RPM for a few minutes. You keep topping off the radiator as it needs it. Once it won't take any more, put rad cap on tight, take for a drive to get everything up to temp. Check overflow tank, should be at full hot level. Then let sit overnight, and do the burp thing again at the next cold start... hold the rpms up about 2k for 2 mins and see if you can get
any more coolant in the rad. After 2 cold start burps, should be good.

Or.......you could simply drain and fill.

Sorry to resurrect this old post but is there any need to do this burp method or a simple drain and fill will work?

yea im curious about the same thing. I was literally just going to drain the rad and refill it.
