I doubt this is the first time Richie Rich did something stupid. Your fault for hanging around someone like that just because they have money.

I'll be the one exceptional dissenting voice in this thread.

Assuming your car's engine will cut off at redline, I think it's your fault that you didn't mod the car sufficiently enough to handle the power. There's a reason why the ZL1 has better parts throughout - because it was designed to handle the power. People can't just slap on a blower and expect their engines not to crap out.

Of course I am assuming that you did not in fact modify those parts that broke.

I'm pretty sure your car wasn't modded to handle 7200rpm reliably, so if you modded your car to do that, and someone drove it to the new redline - you want to blame him for that?

Here is how I would handle it. I would report it to YOUR OWN auto insurance company as a non-permissive use of the vehicle, and see if they will cover it under your comprehensive coverage (akin to a claim of vandalism). This should eliminate any deductible. They will then subrogate against your friend (i.e., make demand for reimbursement) to him, and if he wants, he can try to run it through his own insurance carrier or whatever. IMHO, that would be a very diplomatic way to handle it, yet achieve the same - if not better, since you don't have to chase money -- result.

I have to agree here. If the car was truely tuned to redline at 7200 RPM then it's partially the OP/tuner's fault. I doubt very seriously the motor was built for that.

However, even if it was set to redline at 7200 RPM, the OP has been able to keep his foot out of it and not take it that high for any length of time. It was still the friend who basically stole the car and pushed it beyond it's limits. I still feel that it broke under the so called friends foot and he didn't have permission to do so. He should pay.

I also agree with the other person that posted about the springs. You should go ahead and replace all the springs. Keep the ones you take out as spares. That's what I would do. After all the other 7 have more wear on them than the new ones.

Actually, this sounds like a very reasonable option. I would definately talk to your insurance agent about something like this. That way it will ultimately be between the insurance company and the guy that stole the car. Let the insurance company take him to court.

I remember when I was young and stupid.. I picked up one of his rifles and put a couple rounds in the air.. he laugh and said "let me see that" and took the butt of his AK-47 and smashed my damn face in telling me how stupid and unsafe that was.. gave me a ice cold beer to soothe the bruise on my face.. never forget it... Love that man!

If he's a good friend.... When you tell him, he damaged it when he went for his joy ride... He should automatically offer to pay for the damages!!!! If he respects you!! That's just the right thing to do...

There ya go jeff! Don't bother easing in to the discussion, we don't frick n' frack around on this forum, just kick that door down and let the guy have it. Show him your war face!

"frick n' frack around" I had to use that because the internet won't let me say ****.

This is why I don't drink and why I don't hang out with drunks. Just tell your friend he's responsible for the bill. And to the guys saying why the op's friend is so cheap, maybe it's because he's cheap that he has $100+ million? Lol

I let my best friend drive my car once, when I first got it and he will NEVER drive it again, let's just say he was very lucky.

No one drives my car ever, except my dad.
