Just picked this up for my ZL1 and I must say I'm impressed with the presentation from dimple....for 35.00 part, I couldn't be happier....Very nice.. Will install when I do my first oil change.

UPDATED PICS

I put 2571 miles on this oil. Plug came out with lots of little metal shavings. Felt gritty, like sandpaper. Strong little plug. LOL

show us a pic after you change the oil...I bought one of these for my bike and my truck....

never had anything on them when I changed the oil...always suspected these were a con....

Like to see if they work on the Camaro.

I look at these kinds of products as "feel-good" purchases. A waste of money, IMHO. If you have enough cast-iron shavings floating around in your oil to warrant using this plug, catching them is the least of your worries. By the time it gets there, the damage is already done.

That's my professional technical opinion, anyway. I will say, though, that their packaging and presentation is 5-stars. Well done.

I agree with you on the "feel good" purchase, it is a nice piece of mind. Might I add though, there are some cars that come from the factory with a magnet plug... I also know and have seen a few magnets in the tranny pan... So they are used for a reason.

You are correct about some transmissions having magnets in the pan. There are components within an automatic transmission that are normal wear items, but are made with iron or steel core. The magnet is there to pull iron particulate out of the oil so that they don't get embedded in the valve body or clutch material.

Your engine does not have normal wear items made out of iron core material. And while there is certainly wear on the cam and crank, it is at a very slow rate and doesn't introduce any harmful particulate concentrations that a normal oil change would not eliminate.

I believe in Magnetic drain plugs...My Silverado came with one from the factory.

I do think $35.00 is a bit out of line though...

I have had this one on my Camaro for almost three years now..5 bucks.
