Fuel Stabilizer

Hi guys, I have searched the forums and can't find anything so I'm posting this thread. My question is my car will be put away this month, probably in a few days, what are your thoughts on adding fuel stabilizer for the winter? Is it necessary? I will be running the car every few weeks and moving it from the garage to the end of the driveway and back so it doesn't sit. What do you guys think, is fuel stabilizer a good thing?

I use it. It is cheap insurance, particularly if you have ethanol blended fuel, which has a much shorter shelf life than pure gasoline.

Also, running the car will not increase the shelf life of the fuel.

For the $9 I spent on the bottle, it will last me for 2 winters and my storage time is mid december till beginning of march.

If the car is stored for a few months, better to do it. I bought mine in april 2010, used. The car did'nt move since november 2009. When I bought it I had a CEL the first day and the dealer had to change a few injectors that where clough up. He said that it's a more than 1,000.00$ job. (under warenty, oufff).

I the car is stored in a heated garage, taking it out a few times can't damage, but in a unheated one it's not recommaded to start it up. Either way, let it run enough so it's gets warmed up to driving conditions...and make sure your tank is at least 3 quarter...finally, install a battery tender..
This is my .02 cents.

Starting the car doesn't preserve the fuel or stop it from turning into varnish. Sta-bil.

Thanks guys, the garage is heated, the only reason I was going to start the car once a month or so is to keep everything moving, I realize that will not prolong the life of the fuel. I think I will pick up a bottle today. Thanks guys

I have a Harley that I never ride, for this reason fuel stabilizer is good. I would use it in the Camaro if I wasn't going to use it for a few months.

IMO Rest to do:

1. inflat tires to 40lbs.
2. Car Cover
3. Car has to be clean
4. If possible add a plastic sheet under the car. Ciment always lets humidity come out
5. If you disconnet the battery, don't lock the trunk cover, it won't open without electricity. Or install a battrery tender...

And do like me sit in your garage with a computor on your work bench, read Camaro5 and other sites and enjoy being with you car often. Have a nice winter...

If you are not going to drive it for at least half an hour, don't start it. It will do more damage than good. Don't worry about leaving it for a few months without starting it. And use Stabil.

When you do start it every few weeks, make sure to run it at least 10 minutes after it reaches normal operating temperature. This is to prevent moisture from accumulating in your exhaust. Otherwise (according to the experts) you'll do more harm than good...
