suspension / lowering

I would like to lower my car about an inch (I want the car to have a more aggressive stance). Anyone done this yet with the DSSV shocks? Thoughts?

Terrible idea. Your taking a system built for function over form and reversing that priority.

Why buy a z/28 at that point...

Your car, do what you want but i'm certain many others will have a similar opinion.

The Z/28 is already lower than a standard SS, and considering how valuable the DSSV dampers are and not knowing how they'll hold up, if you really want to go low I'd consider swapping to coilovers and selling the DSSV strut assemblies. You can adjust the ride height (and depending on which ones you get, the damping) and recoup a pretty big part of the investment by selling the stock bits.

If you are lowering the car to close down the air gap above the tires just go to a 20" rim to fill out the fender well better . The bigger rim will make the car look lower . Save the 19" for track days

Whow....the car is nearly 2 inches lower than a zl1. Lowrider style...just ordered front splitter because mine shady has taken some nice love taps. Any lower sounds like a full blown disaster waiting to happen.

Lower Z/28

I would like to lower my Z/28 also. About 1" it will fill in the gaps well. I don't want to lose any of the suspension capabilities. Just want the look.

Ok don't take this wrong...but your not worthy of owning a Z28 if your messing up the suspension. You have no clue what you bought otherwise you wouldn't even be worried about the gap. Sell it and buy a SS if you want to tinker. You bought the 27th?? fastest car on the planet at the track!!! SMH Sorry but I feel better know. Still gonna be shaking my head for hours at this post

Update

What I meant to say in my original post is that I want to lower the car, which i think will look better, without degrading the suspensions performance. Normally with conventional coil-over suspension you can achieve this by changing the springs. Usually lowering the car improves performance (while not degrading ride quality too much) if done correctly.

Anyway, I called Multimatic and after being transferred to 5 different people they finally told me that they cant comment on doing any modifications to the shocks for liability reasons.

So then I called Phoenix racing (they are very successful SCCA racing team with close ties to GM) and spoke to them for a while. Basically they think, and I agree, that it is best to wait until a reputable company that does real R&D comes out with a kit, otherwise I run the risk degrading the performance and ride quality.

I'm going to look into these 20" replica wheels for the street and mount my track tires on the OEM wheels. Unfortunately the widest they make these 20" wheels are 11" and our set up is staggered with the rear wheels being 11.5.

Well, a regular coilover would let you change the ride height by merely adjusting the shock body length?

Those are replicas of ZL1/1LE sizes, and should work just fine. The wheels will be tucked in a bit due to offsets, though.

The pic I posted are of (Slickrichic )car here a link to his build thread http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=379561 Now his car is not lower a lot its all about the tire dia. he running I think there 28" 3/4 tall tires and that what making the car look like it slammed . For the tire stagger I would not be to worries about it on the street . The Z/28 is already lower by about an 1 in the springs to a stock SS so I think to get the look of being lowering it all about the tire dia.

Here a link to a test motor trends did with a Z/28 & 1LE on tires http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/..._make_the_car/ now you can run a P285-35 20" front with a P305-35 20" back and I think the car work fine on the street or you could go with the tall tire set up of P275-40 20" front 28.7 tall and a P315-35 20" back 28.6 tall they fill the fender well the best but you get a big tire stagger .
