Local Chevy dealer gets 2016 Camaro SS manual to demo and transmission clutch fails
Yesterday my local Chevy dealer received a 2016 Camaro SS with manual transmission to demo and train the sales staff/techs.
The owner (my friend) of the dealership took it out with the Manager and went for a drive, went 1 mile to Interstate and let her rip and at 65MPH rowing through the gears and heard a loud pop and transmission blew the clutch out and had to be towed back to the dealership. I hope this is not going to be an issue after production starts but my guess is that demo had been abused before my local dealer got it. |

No worries they will work all the kinks out before production

Please go to the dealer and take some pictures, if he is a real friend he will let you drive it.
What better way to train the service department than to give them one that was probably abused pretty badly and on the verge of breaking.

Stuff like this happened in late 2008 and early 2009 with the 5th gen, too. No worries! It's all gonna be fine.

He did tell me that driving the 2015 Corvette Stingray with Z51 package w/7 speed and then the 2016 Camaro SS 6 speed was very close in performance and power.
He stated that the 2016 SS demo car with manual with dual exhaust was as good as the Zl1 and it really felt lighter and said it was lightning quick until it blew. |

This is what always made me nervous about buying a muscle car that's been test driven before I bought it. There's no way of knowing of abuse, revving it to redline cold, flooring it cold, clutch/transmission abuse, etc.. My past cars have run fine but it still makes me want to order a camaro this time and be there to pick it up when it comes off the truck. I guess that still doesn't mean it wasn't abused between the train and car hauler

Ouch... that's embarrassing. Definitely something wrong there. Hope it's an easy fix for production models.

That's why they build these cars. I wouldn't worry about it.

So, if a dealership in Alabama has a new Camaro, there should be one at many other dealerships in the country by now (for these demo and training purposes, of course)...Why should only Alabama get one?
Should be a lot of spy photos showing up..... But, somehow, I have my doubts...(even about one being in Alabama).... |
