check engine light! help

My check engine light just came out p0442.... i read on the forum that it could be the gas cap? but i have aftermarket exhaust which makes me think it could be the exhaust. Should i be worried and have the dealer check it out? also will the dealer void my warranty cause the exhaust? thx

Should go away on it's own after a couple drive cycles. Or take it to AutoZone they can reset it for free.

Well, mine came on like that and it wasn't the gas cap. it was the sensor in the gas tank with they had to drop my tank and replace it.

Did the problem go away? Loose gas cap can certainly make evap code pop up but I heard that the early GM direct injected models such as LNF had slew of evap purge solenoid failures. If everything is good after you tighten the gas cap than I guess it was false alarm, but you might want to keep this in mind judt incase it come back.

leave the negative terminal off from the battery in the trunk for about 30 minutes and see if the CEL come back on. Any rough idle?

The idle is normal for the most part, Tho sometimes it does feel a little weird at idle, I thought it might be cause I have aftermarket exhaust and no intake to breath better...

Does this work on OBD-2 cars? I always thought the newer ECUs had to be cleared whenever a code appeared since the code is stored inside the ECU.

Hey guys as soon as you get aftermarket headers or exhaust the check engine light should come on; i have the same problem

That is because the cars ecu detects a change in air calibirations, and it thinks something is wrong with the car; i believe this can be fixed with a custom tune
