Matter of fact, Camaro magazine rated this year as the next best collectable "muscle car."
i dont know if it is specific to just the 79 year id think 78-81 |

1979 Z/28 Valuation...
If your Z/28 is in original condition, no wrecks, clean throughout and less than 40,000 miles...you should be right around $15-$20K.
This will go up sharply in about 5-7 years and be paralell with the rise in equity of the average home rise across the country. Like all other collectible values...they are all relative to the increase of equity relative to the home values in our country. The 1969 SS 396 Chevelle...numbers matching 4 spd went for about $15K back around 2002. Since that time, the owners saw an appreciation increase to near $55-$70K! The Z/28 isn't as rare of a vehicle...but certainly can out corner all of those 1969 Chevelles-NO PROBLEM. If you're into raw street power and have the opportunity to build one of these beauties...then get yourself a 400 c.i. small block and throw some '66-'68 2.02 Vette heads on it with a cam from Chevy for the 1970 1/2 LT-1. Now you're going to see some rpm's up around 6500 with a very strong power range that spans between 3000-6500. Enjoy. Oh yeah...the carbureator...well that's easy, get yourself a deburred and jetted quadrajet from a 1973 SD-455 Trans Am...as the secondary air valves open at 90 degrees and allow a full 725 cfm. |

Keep an eye on these cars - the market is building for them very quickly now and the prices are going up just as fast. Nice cars are already hard to find now and people who have them are pretty much aware of the fact of the moving market on them.
I was able to score a real 1978 Z-28 factory black car with t-tops & 4 speed. If you see a nice car now - grab it as they are disappearing and the prices are going up. |

I have the price sticker and the build sheets (I`m the third owner) It was a very loaded Z.Air,cruise, T-tops, power everything.turbo 350 even a 3:42 positraction rear end. It was around $6500.00 New. I`m not sure now .The criteria would be the running condition, modifications, auto or four speed. Four speed cars a harder find that haven`t been beat on.And with 1st gens getting so expensive more people are going to these.Good luck to you.

Got one of my own
I have a 1979 Sport Coupe, The value all depends on the condition and milage on them at this point and the value is only going to increase.. like they say wine gets better as it gets older, same with these.. Right now my camaro is in the middle of a full restoration. It was originally Red on red, when i bought it, it was changed to blue on red so it wasnt the prettiest lol.. Im in the middle of changing it to black leather interior and putting a yellow exterior to it. Anyways back to the point of the fact. Mine is only a sport coupe with about 55,000 miles. 3 Speed auto. Its appraised at $7500 and its not in the best condition. So im figuring a MINT (No body rust, clean frame/firewall/floor, prestigious interior) z28 would probably go for about $15-20xxx.

I bought my '79 Z-28 new on October 23, 1979. It had 1980 Camaros on each side. Manufactured in August '79, it was one of the last '79s made. It's red with a black sport cloth interior. I wanted a 4 speed at the time, but it's an auto. I fell in love with it when I first saw it. The Z is in my garage about 10' from me as I type this now. Celebrated 34 years of ownership a couple of weeks ago. After driving my '13 most of the time, the '79 seems very low to the ground. The trunk is way lower. I have a photo in my garage if you want to see it. I modded the engine a bit back in the '80s for autocross, but it's mostly still stock. I installed WS-6 swaybars out of wrecked Trans Ams (they were straight!)
I might sell her some day, but this day she's still mine! Tara
