Storage question
Hi fellow C5'ers. I have a question about storage for my baby for a few months. Anything I need to do to the car if I'm not going to be driving it for a couple of months? Fluids, battery, etc? I live in Florida and it will be 90+ degrees the entire duration.
Unfortunately I'm going to be in the hospital for a while then recovery at home, I'll be battling cancer. If we have any cancer survivors on the forums I plan on joining the club! God Bless .. |

if its under a carport, i would crack the windows an inch to allow the hot air out. if its parked completely outside, maybe invest in a sun screen for the windshield, and or an outside cover for it.

I would recommend putting it on jack stands to avoid flat spotting the tires, put a new tank of gas in it, new fluids if due. And if you have anyone that could start it up every once in a while it would help to let it run.
I've also heard of people unplugging the battery to prevent drain and wearing it down.

I agree with the above, but instead of disconnecting the battery I would put it on a smart trickle charger. Best of luck in your battle with the big casino...don't be afraid to fight dirty. |

Speedy recovery.
Put a battery tender on it if you have access to a plug-in. They're like $10 at Harbor Freight, etc. Full tank of gas with a bottle of Sta-Bil fuel conditioner. Car on jack stands if possible. Block out as much light as possible if stored outdoors, but I'm not a fan of cracking the windows as too much junk can get in if it's outdoors. John B.

Yeah. everything that they have said. However, do not think that the jack stands are really necessary. It would be nice if you can do it. but if you dont, there is not issue. I left my car parked for over 7 months without jacks and no problems with the tires. Just inflate them to 50 PSI. Also, I just disconnected the battery. didnt put anything.

battery tender is your friend. for all else, just park it and keep the paint safe, and keep the interior nice by keeping it cool. the flat spots will work themselves out after a 20 mile drive. as long as they dont go flat.
dont have a friend drive the car at all. unless you drive it enough to warm everything up and circulate fluids, it causes more damage than good. if it sits for more than a year, change the oil and check fluid levels before driving it.

I wish you great luck in your noble battle set upon you. Be the warrior! Never give up, never surrender!
I too would not mount on jack stands, I've heard too many stories of screwing something up. I would inflate tires to 45-50 psi and check manually before leaving in a few months. You are stranger unto me, but in my thoughts and prayers you'll be. |

Wish you well in your recovery.
I left mine in a garage for 6 months while in Afghanistan. I didn't put any additives in but every other week I had my dad or brother take it to the grocery store or on some short 5-10 mile errands. If you know anyone you trust with your car, that might not be a bad route to go. If not, what everyone above stated. Good luck!!

Cancer seems to run rampant in my family, several multiple time survivors, and one hard loss here. I wish you the very best in your battle and recovery!
I had my car in storage for about 8 months while I was living in Alaska, and I didn't do anything to it. Just rented a storage unit, rammed all the house contents in the back, Camaro in the front, and threw a couple blankets over it. My Dad would start it and let it idle for a few min, or take it on a short drive about once every month or two. If you have someone that can go start and/or drive it once in a while, that would probably be best, as many others have said. |

Starting it and letting it idle is the WORST thing you can do. Once it is off LEAVE it off unless it can be driven for at least 30 minutes. Engines are a lot harder to replace than tires.
