I had mine done in May per the TSB. The cap was different than the original, and it solved the problem. So, yes, apparently an improved cap exists.

Is this TSB for 2012s only or for 2013s as well? Also, is this TSB for all cars or only for vehicles up to a certain VIN number?

Just a heads up, check the paint beneath your cylinder.

I've got paint peel beneath the cylinder on my gt500 (and others) as they were overfilled at the factory.

Sorry if this is a stupid question:

TSB = Does one have to be responsible to pay for the new cap?
Recall = at dealer's expense?

Thanks in advance

I am glad you did not have to pay; I'll check with my dealer's advisor

TSB's are covered under 3/36 warranty, or powertrain warranty, depending on the component in question.

Recalls are covered regardless of time or mileage.

Campaigns are covered within limits set by the manufacturer.

The brake cap is covered under 3/36 warranty.

TSB's are only done if the customer brings the car in for something, sometimes only if the customer complains specifically about the issue. Theres even cases where the technician may not even be aware of the TSB.

Recalls the company has to send notices out and do the fix on all cars, usually over a set amount of time.

obviously it would cost more money on a recall, because there would be alot of people who will just wipe the fluid off and continue on if they even noticed it, or never need to bring the car in for something else

In either case though you dont have to pay for the fix

Not to be redundant but, did we check the Master cylinder to see if it had been overfilled at the factory ? Back in July of 2009 my 2010 2SS leaked from the master cylinder cap, it was because it was overfilled at the factory. Some Dealers thought it was the cap and no one checked the Max level. Just trying to help.

I guess I'll wait for the recall and take it to the dealer.

I can check your VIN for any open recalls or programs. Please provide the VIN in a PM and I will be happy to research it!

I didn't know of a recall on master cyl cap. But on the other side mine was leaking a little. So I took the cap off removed the rubber boot. Took a gallon milk jug,put the rubber boot on the side of the jug and traced around it with black marker next cut it out, then put the lid on the round piece with the 3 little feet on top of it & marked them with marker and notched them out. Put piece cut out over 3 legs put boot back on in secure place, put cap back on secure and have not had a leak in 2 yrs.

That's cool, but I paid for a car that doesn't leak, so they can fix it.
