LS3 + Manual = New Gears?
Sorry for the cheesy thread name, I am bored on a Friday night.
I ordered a 2SS with a manual...Who thinks I should change the gears to 3.73s? Also who makes the strongest, how much are they, and what are going to be the plus and minuses of switching to the 3.73? I know I will lose some mileage due to higher rpms but how much? Thanks for the help...production is soooooo close |

From my research I have learned that there are no aftermarket or alternative gear ratio's available at this time.
From what I have been told from people in the aftermarket the Camaro uses a ZF rear diff. Robin

3.73s are on my wish list.
no clue on prices off the top of my head right now. a pro will be a little quicker acceleration. a con will be a little worse gas mileage, but i think it won't be too much to worry about

We do not have the same rear end, or at least the same gears I vette would have?

i don't know off the top of my head what's in the vette, but the LS3 SS gets a 3.45 rear

I believe the CTS-V uses a similar setup
Its LSA is mounted to a TR6060 with 3:73 gears |

Also they say they want to see some decent production and sales before they make the commitment. It's a whole new world out there. In the past the parts would be available within a year. Now it may take longer. I know of several vendors who are developing solid axle conversions. It will solve the gear and brake problem. The brakes are too large to clear most drag wheels that run slicks. Robin

I definitely recommend going for a shorter gear. I myself plan on going with 3:90's. Not sure how much it will cost yet, but I'm sure there will be options. I have 3.73's in my current SS and it was a noticable improvement. They cost $200 plus another $150 to install, but the 5th gen is a whole new animal, so nobody knows yet.

Well, they would if anyone made slicks to fit the current trend in wheels.
Really they weigh way too much to use on any fast car anyway Robin
