dealer tried selling some crazy stuff!

so the car is at the dealer for an oil change and to see if i can get the new brake pads in... They called me just now to ask if i wanted a throttle body cleaning (to "clean fuel and grime off of the throttle body plate") for a wopping $67! Then they asked if i wanted a fuel injector flush (the car has 18K on it and i only use 91 octane because that's the best we can get in good old cali) for the small price of $146!

are they F-ing crazy! there shouldn't be any grime on the throttle body and definitely no fuel! and the injectors shouldn't need cleaning after 18K miles... do people say yes to that! its been a good dealer so far but this kinda makes me think...

any opinions?

Ridiculous... I wouldn't let them do either unless you are having some sort of performance issue.

Did they also offer to refill your blinker fluid and windshield bearings?

The throttle body may have some oil on it from the PVC blow by. But you could clean it yourself. Dealers love to rip folks off. The service shop is where the dealler makes his money anyway. Just like selling computers, I don't make squat selling one but make alot fixing them.

I had the dealer clean the injecters once on my blazer...I was replacing the cat converter a week later....those machines they use to do on vehicle cleanings can mess stuff up...so be careful

Service extras is where the dealer makes a lot of its profit. Just say No!!!!!!! to dealer extras. It is like the airlines newly added fees for everything.

Tell them to read this bulletin, it basically says - quit being crooks and stick to only the maintence that is actually required. Your dealer falls under the category of - still a crook.

You can't blame the dealerships for trying to make some $$. Yes you can do all of those things yourself for CONSIDERABLY cheaper but you're not paying yourself for labor. Out of all of those, the TB cleaning is something you might want to do. Go buy some carb cleaner and clean it yourself. You'd be suprised at just how much carbon build up and oil can get on your TB plate.

Sorry guys, but you can fault the dealer for trying to make a buck. After all these people have to work for a living and put food on the table.

Just say NO and let it go ...
