ZL1 has over a 100 more than a 392 challenger ,and I've seen the ZL1 get beat by one. So you never know. And yes, they are both stock.

Using the Corvette for an excuse as to why they don't put more power in the Camaro is a cop out. Chevy has been offering the same motor configurations in the two cars since the 60's and it never hurt the vette. They are always going to much lighter and more nimble then the camaro and the two appeal to different folks. Until the ZL1 is knocking on the Z06's door which it isn't even close, Chevy has a lot of room for more power in these things. It's way behind the ZR1 in performance. So I don't thing vette guys or gm is to worried. They just don't seem to be able to jump ahead of ford. They aim their sights at fords current models instead of looking down the road. This will always keep them behind

Driver skill comes into play. I know for a fact thy my shift speed isn't as fast and smooth as some people. That would cause me to get eaten alive time after time. That's not the fault of the car. Thats solely on the driver.

Now I don't know KKreme's skill but I know I'd decline because I'm not that skilled.

These guys keep saying the ZL1 is better on a oval, maybe so, maybe not but we dont live on a oval, when a GT500 rolls up next to you its a stoplight to stoplight race and thats pretty much where it counts.

Bump ..Drivers appear to be the key......... at Camaro Fest III I watched a whole bunch of ZL1 s run on the drag/autocross with varying results. I am still not certain of the performance of the beast! Looks great, sounds awesome.....just saying!

I smoked a SRT 392 yesterday. Its my buddies car and he and I are equal as far as experiance goes. We did it from a stand still as well as rolling in 1st. Outcome was the same. I also raced a BOSS mustang and I beat that yesterday as well. I did however get smoked by a 911 turboS yesterday. We have the dream cruise going on here if your wondering where I'm finding all of these nice cars to race.

From what I've read most ZL1 owners, when you line up with them at the stop light, want to fly over to Europe and run the 'ring against you.

All joking aside, I agree with the quoted post.

Forgot to mention I also raced a 1969 A12 roadrunner 440 6 pack original 4 speed Friday night. I beat it pretty good.

Like I said, nothing really surprises me after seeing a ZL1 get beat by a 392. That was merely the point I was making. I would certainly hope that a ZL1 would smoke a 392 but it has been proven to not always happen at the track. Sounds like you weren't racing at a real track. That's a whole different ball game.

My bad then. I've never been to a drag strip that let you do rolling starts. That why I didn't think you were on a drag strip.

So question here is, "Would you rather be seen in a ZL1 or GT500?'

I was joking motorhead. Its a road here in Detroit that muscle cars have been using as an illegal drag strip since the 1960's. US 1 Woodward Ave is home to the biggest cruise/auto show in the world.
