Were the 7 digits for a certain time frame? Or just the special order 7 digits?

When I renewed my registration in December, I had to get new plates and I just noticed they gave me 7 digit plates (random, non customized for the truck).

the NEW REGULAR (alpha/numeric) Texas plates are all 7 digits......BUT if your talking PERSONALIZED custom Plates, thats another thing altogether. a couple of years back the company "MY PLATES" got teh contract for making VANITY/PERSONALIZED plates.....and on a regular basis only offer 6 digits.....HOWEVER, once in a while they run a "SPECIAL", usually for a week or so, where you can purchase 7 digit vanity/personalized plates.

Yeah I kinda noticed that driving around today. Guess I never really pay attention to license plates.
