Camaro SS vs. Nissan GTR
What do you have to do to a Camaro SS to beat the GTR in the quarter mile? Just wondering...

Start with All Wheel Drive. Then keep adding power mods.
That car will get you off the line every time with the All Wheel Drive. Then if they have mods too? Ouch!! Hate to say it cause I think they're ugly, but they are fast as CHIT |

Keep the SS rear wheel drive.
But seriously, a stock SS would lose to a stock Evo or STI if you race them from a dig just because of their AWD, but it would be very close. But we will smoke them on the highway. Add some bolt-on's and a tune to the SS and it'll smoke the Evo's and STI's even from a dig. |

You don't have to have all wheel drive. Just because they beat you to 60' doesn't mean you are guaranteed to lose the race. Whatever you end up doing you won't have to spend near as much on the camaro to get GTR performance IMO.

OK, but what would you need to do? Twin-turbo your SS?

The only thing needed to beat a GTR is a set of slicks and the GM LS3 Hot Cam.
That will put you right at 480HP (Same as the GTR), but without the turbo lag and with much better top end power. The Camaro weighs about 200lbs less than the GTR, which is also an advantage. If you launched the hell out of a cammed LS3 M6 Camaro on slicks, you will whoop a GTR. Also remember that the new GTR's have detuned launch control, since the older models were blowing transmissions left and right at a cost of $20K to the owner. So instead of putting in a stronger trans, in typical Nissan fashion they just detuned the launch control and lowered the RPM. In the process of that the GTR gained about a half second in its 1/4 mile and 0-60 times, making it even less impressive for $85K. |
