Lowdown, I agree with your approach to building the Z/28 on existing components. Maybe they code this project "Frankenstein". It sure in hell should make Mustang owners scared !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would also love to see an LS7 make it's way into a 5th gen. Looking forward it seems like engines are going with smaller displacement for efficiency / weight purposes and thats all well and good. But before we get there lets go crazy and throw an LS7 in a Camaro... put on some old school 427 badges... and sure call it a Z/28.
We're in another golden age of performance cars so lets enjoy it.

Unscientific, but "data" nonetheless, here's the results of TWO surveys from this Site:

1) This one from the Z/28 Section- http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=155381

2) This one from the ZL1 Section!- http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=181043

I found it "interesting" that the ZL1 Section poll had a MINORITY of folks voting for the ZL1... Can you spell p-e-n-t-u-p d-e-m-a-n-d?

There are NO Camaro Coupes with "serious sporting intent" that carry a Base MSRP in the $40s...while there are THREE Mustangs...selling, combined, in excess of 10,000 units, a number the ZL1 will not come close to.

Conclusion? $40-up, the Mustang will be the sales champ in 4-seat Performance Coupes.

Or...is "something" afoot?

There is certainly an opportunity for Camaro to have TWO worthy candidates...quickly...no pun intended...

3. Make the Ultimate Z28 with more power than the new GT500 around 800hp or so.
I like the first two ideas, but as someone with a bit of a marketing background, I can tell you that #3 would just be a no-go. that is what the ZL1 is for. The ZL1 is the ultimate in power from the Camaro. And it was already designed with track and road course in mind.

The Z28 will probably fit nicely between the SS and ZL1 in terms of power, outperforming the Boss302, but also have a lighter chassis with improved rigidity and handling.
