In Post #18 I did state this. Now you can see why I'm so persistent with this idea. You cant run with standard lifters because the lobes are ground down differently.

i think you are going to need to go with a custom camshaft since it seems like you have very specific 'wants' for this and i'm not sure an off-the-shelf grind will fit
i'd go with cam motion as well. i think comp is having issues with their hardening process

I believe it comes from not following proper break-in procedures and utilizing wrong type petrol chemical compositions during this process...

I contacted GPI (Gwatney Performance Innovations) and requested a custom Grind with my needs and they stated that they were going to come up with something and get back to me. |

I think it is a great idea OP. I too HATE the DOD system, however the VVT is nice to have. Why can't we have VVT without DOD? I too have no desire to mess with increased upkeep (such as replacing springs). Why nobody has put this together as a package before, I don't know.

Not in Stock Form. If people had the option to buy their Camaro with VVT and no DOD than we would not have to go through the hassle (and expense) of taking that crap out.
So no, you cannot have VVT without DOD in stock form. You can however modify your VVT/DOD engine to just have VVT "BUT" you have to work at it. And have only options to increase performance, which in turn means more money for supporting mods. |

So what “stage” cam can I go with that doesn’t require spring replacement every 25k miles? I’d be getting rid of all the DOD crap when I change the cam next year to 18 months.
Thanks. |

It cost about 700$ to have the springs changed. Which isn't too bad for every 25k. If one wants to play one has to pay.

Like the op, I want a reliable vvt non dod motor. I do not want to put in new springs every 25k. For that cost and pain, I would just get a different car with more hp. Dod is the worst thing that gm ever put into a motor in my opinion. I want it gone and outside of that I will not pay to play.
