I don't know why people are holding out for a car that will be basically an SS with a track package. There obviously won't be any drastic weight loss I mean look at the Boss 302 it weighs more than the GT. They're not going to put an LS9 engine in it like some people have stated they expect. They obviously are not going to make the Z28 overshadow the ZL1 like so many on this forum are desiring.

If Gm does a Z/28 it would be more than that, The fact that the ZL-1 was going to be named the Z28 but they change their miinds, should be evidence that if they do a Z28, it will be special. IMVHO I bet $100 that a 5th Gen Camaro Z28 will have a Gen V v8 since the Gen V is about 2 years out. If they do one (Fingers Crossed)

1st: Learn some Z/28 history

2nd: Correct me if I'm wrong but I have not read any posts where the Z/28 will or should overshadow the ZL1.

There is a group that's really wants a new Z/28 and we come here to post our wants and ideals and we know GM is listening.
If and thats a " big IF " the Z/28 is born I don't expect an announcement for six months to a year after the ZL1 has hit the streets.

Just for truth sake,

my friend just bought a Boss at MSRP. They are an extremely well engineered vehicle, 12.35 1/4 mile (M/T) and extremely well handling. Thier numbers don't lie. I am certain I could pick one up at MSRP

What I am hoping is that the ZL1 will out drag a Gt500 AND Outhandle a Boss....

It is my opinion that there will be no Z28 for the 5th gen Camaro. The ZL1 is what you get for now. Maybe when the next gen comes out after a year or two the next HP version will be a Z28.

I'm with majority on this one, that depending on the sales of the ZL1, I don't see a Z/28 anytime soon.

5th GEN is spanking that mutang's a$$ now and will continue for next couple of years, watch!

You have actual evidence to back this claim up?

I was actually speaking based on what the New Boss 302 is. There are engine enhancements and a bunch of suspension enhancements and it still weighs nearly 100 lb more than a GT. Everyone is expecting this incredibly lightweight Camaro, saying it the Z28 has to lose at least 400lb, with this generation of Camaro I'm just saying don't hold your breath. I want nothing more than all you guys/gals that want a Z28 to get one but I just don't see it happening with this body design. Hopefully the 6th Gen Camaro will be more of an evolution as well as a step backwards, in the weight department, so that you can all have the Z28. That all being said if Pdaft can get a Camaro hitting 1.3 G, then GM should have no problem making a Z28. I just don't see it happening at this point in time. Also I think it would be a lot more fitting to bring the Z28 back with at 5.0 L V8 as per heritage.

FWIW, it looks like there will be a very limited number of Boss 302s available in Canada (approx 300) plus, about 35 Laguna Seca editions slotted for the Canadian market.
http://www.nationalpost.com/cars/Pre...792/story.html

There is whole convoluted formula involved that will dictate what dealers will get them (not all will).

...and from the Canadian Owners Mustang Club:
http://www.cmoc.ca/showthread.php?t=14335

"If you are seriously thinking about getting yourself one of the new 2012 Boss 302 Mustangs next year, you had better already be in contact with your local dealers. And if you want the ultra limited Laguna Seca edition Boss 302, you had better be ready to do some serious horsetrading.

According to a recent memo released to Ford dealers, the new Boss 302 production will not only be limited, but cars will be allocated to dealers using a scoring system and a lottery system. This means that only the top sales performing dealerships will be getting many of the cars. Lower tier dealers in small towns or those who don’t sell many Mustangs may not be getting any at all.

The memo outlines that Ford dealers will have to “earn” the opportunity to buy the 2012 Boss 302 Mustang from the factory. Two methods are outlined to decide what dealerships will get how many of the highly sought after cars.

The first method is “share of nation”, of which 75% of Boss 302 production will be distributed. Dealerships on the list that sell a high amount of Mustangs, listed as 75% of the nation will be given at least one Boss 302. Any additional allocations will be based on actual sales numbers. This means if they are on the list of dealers selling 75% of Mustangs, they get one. If they really move them they may get the opportunity to get additional units.

The second method of allocation is a straight up “lottery” to which the remaining 25% of production will be allocated.. Dealerships not included in the top tier 75% of nations sales for Mustangs, will each get one chip for being a dealer and one chip for each Mustang they have sold in the past year. Because there are more dealers than 2012 Boss 302’s to be allocated in the lottery, not all dealers will get one. These dealers can only get one of them through the lottery.

The Laguna Seca Edition Boss 302’s will be allocated in a second lottery only allocation program, meaning that most dealerships will only be getting one, if they get one at all.

What this means to potential buyers out there is that like the GT-500 back in 2007, the 2012 Boss 302 Mustang will be going to the highest bidders. With dealerships in most cases only getting one, two or three of the cars for 2012 if they get one at all, they will be holding the hostage with huge mark ups. Count on it.

If you want one bad enough, you need to contact your dealership now and get in line. Secondly, you better be stacking up some cash because it isn’t likely anyone will be selling them at MSRP."

Best regards,

Elie

For those hoping for a Z28....as in the words of Fbodfather...keep the faith. The Z was coming before the bankruptcy shelved it, so I can't see any reason it won't return. In fact, there are a couple of reasons I know it will.

No evidence of ZL1 having 750hp, GM announced 550hp, and then later said it would have more than 550hp. All, yet to be seen.
I'm with the OP; Interested in hearing about the Z/28 (if there will be one).

I am sure that the dude is mistaken and refering to SLP's ZL1. Funny how people keep posting about SLP's version in the midst of GM's release even on a website like this!
