Is there a heavy duty a/c belt tensioner
Hey guys just noticed that I threw my a/c belt after doing some dyno pulls. Is there a heavy duty tensioner out there to keep the belt on?

There's no tensioner on the AC belt. The serpentine belt has one but the AC belt does not. It is a stretch fit.

This. There is a special tool that is "required" to stretch the belt over the pulley.

I wouldn't want a tensioner on the A/C. The G8 has a tensioner and they are known to throw belts often were the Camaro doesn't near as often.

Special tool is not needed to install the A/C belt on the Camaro.

I have seen several LS engines fitted with ATI balancers that throw the A/C belt more often than normal. They have almost no "shoulder" on the outer belt groove compared to the OE and other brands. Just my experience.

Yeah just added a ATI balancer with the supercharger and threw the belt for the first time. And yes My G8 GXP/LS3 has a tensioner on the ac belt.

I've never threw a belt on my SS or my GXP.
Stock balancer, ATI with blower or Powerbond. |

If you know it's bullshit, why say it?

Because others may not, or assume that the tool is required and there is no other way to stretch the belt. Whats the big deal?

I had the AC belt throw off in my 2012 when it was stock with the stock balancer. Ive since gone to an SLP 25% UDP which is a PB and a new stretch belt and its never given an issue...except the odd squeal in the rain when the AC is on...but considering its 25% Underdriven im not to upset about it lol.

Because technically there is a tool for the belt, and it is the best way to install it. Necessary is in the eye of the installer, but there is a tool for it.
Some people prefer to go by the book
