[QUOTE=Arodr395;6617462]Could GM have used a bigger wheel on the rear of the Z28 and then have stretched the 305/30zr19 tires?[/QUOTE

I don't think they needed to consider that for the Z28.

Perhaps on the 1LE, stretching the 285s on the larger rear wheels gave the correct amount of rear grip for the balanced handling they were shooting for, and as a bonus the staggered wheel size looks better too. Although, it makes rotating for tire wear a problem.

"Hey guys lets put tires that inhibit handling on our track version of one of our best selling cars." -said no GM engineer ever

Also if he doesn't take the Fontana invitation with paid track fees then I'd be willing to join!

I think in testing the 1LE, they found that a slight reduction in rear grip--compared to the ZL1--produced the handling they wanted. They reduced the rear tire size to the front tire size and kept the rear rims the same size considering looks, and the wheel supplier manufacturing capability may have been a concern too.

For the Z28, I bet in testing the engineers just upped the wheel and tire sizes and grip levels until they got what they were looking for. I guess they just didn't need to stretch a smaller tire onto an existing rim size to get the proper grip for the handling balance target.

I think the 285 tires on the rear of the camaro now look wide enough. I changed my mind because of the new rear the camaro's have for 2014 .

Well I not going to tell any one they can not run a staggered tire set up on there car. If you are keeping the car stock then yes a 305 on the back will more than likely make the car understeer more .

Now if you were to say add the ZL1 rear springs to the car (higher spring rate) and lowers the center of gravity of the car and add a set of adjustable sway bars front and rear . I bet you can then set the car rotation back up to being neutral with the 305 tire on the back and maybe get the car to come out of the corner harder with the more tire grip.

Boss 302 come with a staggered tire set up but over on there boards some guys run SQ. tire set up and some keep the staggered set up. It up to the driver on how he wants the car to feel to him self or if he wants to run cheaper tires or for what every reasons he come up with to pick what right for him self .I don't think there a right or wrong way to go as long as you make the changes to the car so to can set it back to neutral .

As for my self my car has been ship so I hope to have it in the next week or so . Humm and what do I see setting on my floor of my room some ZL1 rear springs I wonder what tire size I am going to run on the back of my car .
