hi guys quick question. I have a v6 and I want to do the sides white and keep the middle black but i want it to be shiny in the middle. Do I use the adhesion promoter on the whole thing, then tape the middle, paint the sides then remove the tape and clear coat the whole thing? thanks!

If you are going with a "neutral" color, i.e. not matching the car, try Krylon Fusion. Don't need to use an adhesion promoter. This stuff is tough on plastic. It BONDS to the plastic and will last and flex very well. I have used it several times, and I have not seen it crack, peel or fade. I tried sanding it off of some interior parts....forget it.....had to just paint over it. But they do have MANY different colors.

Adhesion Promoter, like Plasti-DIP ... it hates me... so I use 2-PAK Primer now #result

I already have the color I want. My question is basically for the areas that I want to keep black but I want then to be shiny, do I need to put adhesion promoter and then clear coat or just clear coat?

My "Hugger Inferno Metallic" L99 Engine Cover

Thanks for the inspiration, tips, & excellent step-by-step tutorials, DIY'ers!
I opted to use Bulldog Adhesion Promoter. It's absolutely clear, dries fast, & works great! I caught a BOGO sale on VHT paint, ~aka~ Duplicolor, so I used Engine Primer & Engine Enamel, followed by two thin coats of Dupli-color "Clear EFFEX" (an ultra fine, multi-color metal flake/metallic, that looks awesome on everything I've tested it on!). I finished with two coats of VHT Clear Gloss... Probably overkill, I know, but I only wanted to do this project once, and feel I'll be cleaning or dusting it often.
I followed the advice of several C5 paint pro's, and wet sanded between every coat (except the clear "EFFEX", which dries almost instantly, and leaves a nice "tooth" for your final Gloss Clear coat(s). I used Meguiars Ultimate Compound to buff any minor flaws, then polished.
My best advice: Take your time; let every coat dry throughly, and wear safety glasses when using a brittle Dremel cutting disc!!! (Don't ask )
***"Hugger Inferno Metallic" is not an official color... but it's mine now.

Thanks for all your help guys. Finally got around to doing mine. 3 coats of adhesion promoter, 4 coats duplicolor Olympic white, 3 coats of duplicolor clear coat. Added red decals. Very happy with it.

Krylon Max in white and brushed metal, 2 coats of clear over it, and a decal kit off Ebay. I recommend installing letters 1 at a time with the decals.

Just did mine the other day. Waiting for the lettering decals to come in to finish it up.
