Torco question...

I run 91 octane here in CA. I've noticed since adding Torco to get a 93 octane mix, when starting cold, there's no more "knock" noise coming from the engine. Would this make any sense, or is it in my head?

I use Torco all the time for our stupid 91octane here. And it works!! Of course I have a tune for when running Torco. I mix it up to 104octane on weekends upload the tune and tell the ole lady to hold on to her panties!!! So yes it does work!

He's not questioning if it works. He's questioning the engine running quieter at idle.

Oh I see. In that case I don't notice any difference on startup.

What you may hear cold is piston slap. It would have no effect with Torco

Isn’t piston slap something that one typically associates with forged pistons? I believe the LSA uses the Hypereutectic piston which allows for tighter clearances/tolerances, thereby eliminating piston slap….no?

So Texas and Cali are only 91? I've been trying to get a list of octane levels by state Here If any one else has input it would be greatly appreciated.

I do not know what the noise is, if it is knocking cold, then most of the time it's the pistons are not hot and up to the diameter of the bore. After it warms up they normally do not knock.

Maybe just around Odessa, I live in south Texas and we have 93, and I've taken the ZL all around Texas and not have had a problem with finding 93

You are correct. West Texas area 91 is all you find. South, east, and North Texas has 93.
