Aftermarket Xenon bulbs melted my wiring harness pigtail. (pic) Advice needed

Hey all. My problem is obvious from the title subject. Naturally, the dealer will not warranty the repair because of the aftermarket blue xenons I put in. They say that the blues burn hotter and have a tendency to melt the harness.

The fix is easy enough, I just have to find the pigtail. Unfortunately, I cannot get JUST the pigtail...I would have to purchase the entire wiring harness, THEN pay to have it installed.

Does anyone know of a reputable salvage yard that may have a few Camaros, of which I can get just the part that I need? I live in a small town in Louisiana, so we don't have many resources, and I have been unable to locate salvage yard so far that can help.

thanks
james

The wiring harness is most likely rated for around 65w, don't put a set of 100w bulbs in there.

You can order the part from a Chevy parts counter. But you are over-loading the circuit, this was the weakest link, you may be doing damage where you can't see it at the other end. If you are going to run more wattage, you need to do it through a relay.

Seeing threads like this make me wonder how much money you non-RS package guys who are 'doing your own thing' are really gonna end up saving.

OT: I would suggest searching online for wreckers. Many of them will ship internationally

I don't think that was an HID bulb, that might be one of the Blue tint Halogen bulbs that claim to be xenon filled. Ive used those before and they do burn thru connectors cause their wattage is higher. a true HID will not do that since they get current directly from the battery.

Anyways, you can try www.copartfinder.com or ebay.

Good luck

I think I'd try cutting off the damaged connector and splice another one (anything that fits the bulb - check with the bulb manufacturer or just rig something up yourself) onto the wires. Since the other option is to replace the whole harness, you don't really have anything to lose by trying...

That connector is available at the dealer for sure. Or many other places. It doesn't necessarily need to be a GM pigtail, just one that fits that particular bulb, which in the case of this car is an H13. Just search online and you'll find places that sell just the plug like you're looking for.

It would not hurt to call someone like Justin at AAC lighting. He might be able to help you. I'm leaving out at 2am for the 5 hour drive to their facility. They be installing custom lighting in my Daughter's Synergy.

Yep been there, i had a VW Golf, a few years back and i had to have spare plugs cause they would burn thru them like crazy

It was back before HID's where like 500 bucs for a kit.
