We have only broken them at the drag strip, not on the street.

I don't know the science behind it, but they DO recommend a break-in proceedure, so I would think it'd be smart to follow it.

No doubt...I'm just interested in the science behind why it would be required.

Putting any metal through multiple cycles of heat then cooling increases tensile strength. It's just like make making a sword in the old days. Swords were made to shatter not bend. The metal is changed at a molecular level when the correct process is applied. Maybe the stockers are treated before they leave the manufacturer.

I have been debatting putting 4.10 gears for about 2 months. I am glad I didn't step up and do them yet. I will have to see some better results from Richmond before I install their product. Does anyone know if LPE or another company has 4.10's? Anyone else make 4.10's?

I was getting 25mpg with my 4.10s and my tranny tune. I have been able to FULLY lock the converter in DOD mode.

If you follow the break-in for a new car, the rear gears get broken-in easy. But, if you don't break-in new gears, a lot of people will just hammer the gears first time out.

did you skip over the "keep the camaro RPM's below 4k rpm and less than 55 mph for the first 1500 miles" in the manual? (don't flame me... I didn't rtfm either.)

that's a break in period.. for the whole new car's drive train.
