One more reason to like ZL1 tranny in 1LE...
I want to buy a silver 1SS 1LE with dual mode exhaust when my son gets one year driving experience in April as insurance costs go will then go down significantly.
I looked through and searched the Camaro Issues/Problems forum for any reliability concerns I might have about buying a Camaro 1LE. The one thing that really got my attention was the 1st to 2nd shift grinding issue that some owners have had with their 6 speed transmissions. From the reading I've done on mustang forums, it appears the Tremec has far less shifting issues than the Chinese made Getrag 6 speed in the Gt and Boss 302. Soooo, since the 1LE has the ZL1 transmission, I searched the ZL1 forum and through 20 plus pages I found no threads concerning shifting issues. This is comforting to me as perhaps Chevy instructed Tremec to make sure this problem would not rear its ugly head on a $55,000 Camaro. Different parts, materials or a slight change in design, maybe. Is this just wishful thinking on my part... time for a Saturday afternoon beer... cheers to my fellow 1LE fans. |

The transmission in the 1LE is not the ZL1 transmission. ZL1 has the MG9, ,the 1LE has the MM6. I have heard that the MM6 is used in the ZO6.

My 2012 ss has the carbon blocker rings to eliminate the grinding. So far so good. Would think all 2012 and up has this fix

Sounds more like clutch not fully disengaging.

I have a 1le and so far I am not impressed with the 1st to 2nd. It isnt grinding but rather not letting me into 2nd. And when it does it will not grind or make a peep! Now if I sit at a red light hold the break and put it into first and then 2nd it will do the same thing resist the shift. But once I put it into first or 2nd once, go to neutral and try it again, it will go back into the same gear just fine. Same thing with down shifting to 2nd or 3rd, it will not allow me to go into that gear... until i hit a certin RPM or gas it up with the clutch in to it falls into place.

As said, skip shift feature that forces u into 4th gear due to emisions. Read the owners manual and it will tell u when it turns off, I think around 19mph or so. The skip shift eliminator connector is like $20.
