Long tube headers

I want to add headers to my car because I like the sound it makes and I later on what the great performance it gives when my warranty expires so short headers are out of the question. So my question is if I add kooks or pfadt long tube headers and my dealer shuts off the cel that comes from the headers will anything really bad happen if I still don't tune my car. I know I won't see much power but that will come later! So once again by not tuning my car with LTHeaders will it hurt my car in anyway?

Thanks!!!

How is your dealer going to shut off the CEL without tuning it?

It won't hurt your car if you don't get it tuned but it would perform better.

But you mentioned your dealer turning it off.

I've heard of Ford dealers selling approved tuners for Mustangs that wouldn't void your warranty as long as they installed it....maybe some Chevy dealers do the same?

Anyone can clear a CEL. Just disconnect the battery for a few minutes and it's cleared. Any autoparts store can check it with a scanner and clear the code as well. The problem is, they CAN'T turn the rear O2 sensors off, which will keep it from coming back. A dealer can't do it either unless they tune your car. In that case, you just potentially voided your warranty.

O ok! this might sound like a stupid question but can you remove rear 02 sensors would that solve the problem?

If it were that simple, I along with everyone else would have already suggested that. The rear O2 sensors sole purpose is to tell the PCM how the cats are working. They give ZERO feedback on how the engine is running. You can take them out but the OEM tune will still look for feedback from them, then throw the CEL when it doesn't receive any. It has to be turned off within the tune. Once it's tuned, you can take them out since they are no longer working.

There is no way around it. If you install LT headers without a tune you will get the CEL. You can turn it off but it will come back on.

Agreed, the headers will cause a SES light. With custom tuning you can get around it, but some dealerships wont offer your engine warranty with custom tuning. It really depends on your dealership honestly...

TSP headers, high flow cats, and mail order tune are all well under a grand, for approx. 40hp!

How much is "well under"? Trying to convince the payer of the bills (dad) to let me buy headers for my 2010 L99, at the risk of voiding the warranty. Little difficult to convince him until I take over the payments!
