Notchy shifting
Taking my 10SSM6 in Monday morning for a check out is there anything I should tell them or be prepared for. The car shifts kinda of rough when it's cold an gets a little better when it warms up, service advisor says there's no TSB or recall an that they haven't replaced many transmissions for the issue. Hopefully they will either replace it with a newer tranny or rebuild it with the new style synchros.

I'd say just change the fluid and drive it. I have RP in mine and it helped, many people run Redline fluid in theirs and say it helps.

Yep, both my GXP and my SS are that way. Sometimes its a touch notchy warm and I'll stop by somewhere like the gas station and when I leave its silky smooth. Its weird sometimes lol. I just don't worry about it since my GXP was that way.

Yup, change to a good synthetic gear oil and it will improve the cold shifts quite a bit.

An issue discussed ad nauseum...
lot's o' threads on this subject. I had a similar condition in my '10 SS M6; I put RP in and it did not help. I called Tremec and they said it was the nature of the beast / gearing. It gets less notchy as it warms up. When cold, I found pausing before shifting to be of some benefit. Tremec C/S recommended Mobile 1 Sythetic, but pointed out that the maker of the car has the final say as far as Warranty, so go with their recommendation. The Challenger uses the TR6060 also, but recommends a different fluid (ATF+4) than GM Come time, I will go with Tremec's recommendation and use Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. JMO Happy Boxing Day! |

Both V6 and V8 spec gear oil for the tranny. If someone chooses to run ATF instead then meh. You can always change to a lighter oil, but why when you can just dump ATF in it. Lolz. Also, not all ATF fluids can be used as a substitute for a gear oil. Redline is great in a MT because its a very versatile product. Please keep that in mind.

No the Tr-6060 does not specify gear oil.
Manual Transmission (V6 Engine) SAE 75W-90 GL5 Gear Oil (GM Part No. 88862475, in Canada 88862476). Manual Transmission (V8 Engine) Manual Transmission Fluid (GM Part No. 88861800, in Canada 88861801). The fluid is a dexron III ATF fluid. Last edited by Synner; 12-26-2013 at 05:34 PM. |

And redline D4 isn't used in the TR-6060 due to "versatility", it's used because it complies with Dexron III ATF standards.

Its also complies with many more atf standards. Is that not the definition of versitial? Have many uses, serving many purposes.

They started calling it a MTF because Dexron III is no longer suitable for newer autos, they are now going with a Dexron VI. The new manuals are about as complicated as the autos of the past decade so they now use an older ATF standard but call it a MTF so people don't feel bad putting it in their M6.
Retarded and confusing but thats how GM rolls. |
