Gas Guzzler Tax
Well, I was going to ask this in the LS3 engine speculation thread, but that seems to be in a heated debate so I'll make my own thread to not draw that off topic.
Does anyone have any information for the gas guzzler tax? All I can seem to find is things from the 70s, but a friend of mine who works at a Jaguar/Porsche/Aston Martin dealership was mentioning that the high end 6.2 liter engines in the Aston Martins had to deal with gas guzzler taxes. I talked to him a while ago, and I just haven't gotten around to talking to him again with both of our crazy schedules. Also figured it would be a good topic to bring up with the insane engines being hypothesized for the Camaro. More or less I am just curious does anyone know how the gas guzzler tax is determined? Is it gas milage or engine size(because thats what he ensinuated to me)? Is it a one time thing or a yearly tax application? Do we even pay it or is that a dealer/manufacturer issue? Considering the tax itself is a few thousand dollars, its nice to be re-assured of money things. |

I don't think GM's 6.2L LS3 gets the tax; beyond that, I'm not worth much information.

Wow that was fast haha.
I didn't realize Aston Martins had that horrible of a gas milage which is why I was asking in the first place. Thats good news to hear though because I would think it would be hard for the Camaro to NOT get 22.5mpg even at the top engine level. Nonetheless the base v8 and the v6 models should definately be safe, which means I am closer to affording one of them. |

I can't believe the Honda S2000 is on that list... 2.2L 4 cylinder. I know it's a high output engine but wow... 21 mpg combined, that's pretty awful. They must've had a lead foot when testing it.

Im not worried about the camaro falling under the gas guzzler bracket. If GM has managed to keep the Corvette out of that bracket, I dont think the Camaro will make it's way to that list

As long as the Camaro gets roughly 17/26 or better it should avoid the tax.
The worst is the Veyron: 12.1, its practically off the chart! Quote:
We tax gas consumption a little different here. Last time I checked our guzzler tax is actually a little less than the American one. But we pay alot more taxes on the gasoline itself, especially for the higher grades.
