2012 Camaro V6 vs 2002 WRX

Who would win at a dig race? I have CAI and axleback exhaust. He has short ram intake, full turbo back exhaust and a stage 2 tune from this Cobb accessport. He was going to use launch control and I was going to use foot braking.

Maybe a little, but just because the gearing advantage has switched in your favor and the drag of awd will be taking its toll.

If he knows how to drive (launch his WRX well), he will beat you in a 1/4 mile race.
As mentioned, above 80 mph or so your Camaro will start to gain the advantage. But in a 1/4 mile race, he will definitely beat you if he's knows how to launch his WRX off the line.

Well driven, a 2002 WRX (stage 2 - full exhaust and tuning) will run low 13s @ 100 mph or so in good conditions.

Oh ok ya I didn't know if brake launching in my car would even make a big enough diffrence to matter.

I all depends on traction.
On a prepped track, you can get a fast launch by brake/stalling around 1000 rpms and then roll into the gas to launch. Every track is different and you have to adjust your launch based on track conditions.

As far as the street concerned, the best thing to do is practice. Practice launching your car (from idle, brake stall 500 rpms, 1000 rpms) and see which method gets you off the line cleanly (with only a hint of wheel spin). A tiny bit of wheel spin is okay, but that's it. Any more than that and you'll lose a lot of time.

His WRX (if launched properly) will jump off the line like a rabbit and he'll be 2 car lengths in front at the 60' mark. If he doesn't know how to launch his WRX (bogs the launch), then you could be right next to him and it will be a very interesting race.

I've been to the drag strip before and with warm tires I can launch around 2000 rpms without the tires spinning. I got the 20' rims with the 275 wide tires so I think with the v6 torque and 275 tires I was able to not spin. So if I can get a 2000 rpms brake launch I'm hoping I'd stand a chance but I'm not for sure.

I used to have a supercharged cavalier that ran high 13s (no tuning ability at the time, had so much more in it lol). I ran a friend who had a stage 2 WRX and he would stomp me from a roll (was sorta close for a quick second, but would pull pretty easily)

From a roll i have taken my fair share of WRX, including one the other day. Not sure what was done but he wasn't the happiest fella. Pulled pretty hard on him actually, he had exhaust at the very minimum. (newer wrx)

At the track the best thing to do is look at your time slip. See what method gets you the fastest 60' times.
Your stock converter probably stalls around 1600-1800 rpms so I'd stop there. You might also find out your fastest 60' times are launching from idle?
Your 60' times will let you know which method is working best for you.
