Launch Control

Does anyone know how to use the launch control? I have watched 2 You Tube videos on this and Ifollowed how they did it and my car just wont do it. One video says to put it in mode 4 for the street and non slicks, and the other was only using mode 5. I tried them both. When in the launch mode your supposed to put the peddle to the floor and the RPM's are supposed to stay between 3,00- 4,00. I cant get it to do this, it just winds all the way out. Any suggestions? Im taking it through the quarter mile on Friday and would sure like to have this feature working.

Stop, wheels straight, performance mode, clutch in, floor it. Revs should rise to rev limit, then drop to around 4k. Lift your foot off the clutch, don't side step it. Hang on.

Very important to follow all of the steps above. You have to put the accelerator all the way to the floor rather quickly. I'll admit it is a bit nerve racking but that's how it works. If you are gently on the throttle it will not work. Put it to the floor.

Are you supposed to have it out of gear before putting it in launch mode? I've had it in first gear when I was trying it.

On Chevy.com, they have a video on all 5 PTM modes including Launch Control. The vids are very informative.

There are three switches on the center console. From left to right: Tour, Sport, and Stabiltrak. Depress the stabiltrak switch twice. Two yellow lights will activate on the right gauge cluster. The driver info center directly above the steering wheel will show you are in sport mode two with PTM on. Depress the sport switch to go up to mode 3, 4, and race mode 5. Depress the tour switch to move back down though the scale. You can use launch control in any mode of tour or sport only with PTM activated. Launch control can only be used when you depress the stabiltrak switch TWICE and enter the PTM mode. In PTM hold and keep the accelerator to the floor and keep it planted there. The motor will bounce off the rev limiter, then find it's happy medium RPM depending which PTM number you are at. It's roughly around 4K RPM that the motor will hold at. With your foot on the clutch, in first gear, with the steering wheel straight, slide your foot off the clutch and launch. You will have a smooth, controlled, approximately 60 foot burnout then progress thoughout first gear.

I have just recently gotten my car broke in and i have not had the oppertunity to try the lanch control yet, but i have tested it and it does hold the r's at about 4 grand when i go into the lanch setting. My question is around the no lift shift. How are you all working the clutch? Do you press it all the way on every shift, or only part way?

What do you mean by "slide" your foot off the clutch"? release the clutch slow and as fast as possible?

No lift shift means you leave your foot on the throttle, and use the clutch as normal. This keeps the boost high on the supercharger. You'll notice it when done correct.

I just release the clutch in a faster motion than normal. That's all I have done when I was at the track a few weeks ago.

I've done it both ways but found it to be a little bit faster only pressing the clutch in half way. For whatever reason the Camaro has a really narrow "FRICTION" zone in the clutch, much more narrow than any other car I've driven. Therefore, the clutch engages about about 1.5-2 inches of pedal travel so that's all you really need to use when either regular shifting or no lift shifting. It will require some practice and mental adjustment at first with the no lift and you will get a "surge" of power as the torque is held up when you shift just like you do when POWER shifting...since that is essentially what you are doing anyway

Sorry for any confusion, it was a matter of word choice on my part. Release the clutch anyway that you deem appropriate. It won't matter to the tranny, or driveline, as long as you have your foot matted to the floor on the gas. I guess dump the clutch would have been a more appropriate word choice....

So when you release the clutch on launch you leave the throttle pinned and let the traction control initially slip, and catch traction on its own?
