Were not talking modded car's more factory direct car's w/ warranties. An with enough $ you can make just about anything faster and handle better. I have three modded cars an really don't want another one that's why my 2010 SS/RS will stay stock.

For example to me all that SS means in this day and age is it has a V8, it was much the same way in the first Gen. Most 67 SS were equipped with 350 and later the 396 became an option. My Nova for another example if you order an SS in 67 it gave you buckets seats a center console and some exterior trim. The motor was a totally separate option. This is why you can have an SS w/ an in line six on a Nova. In the Camaro the SS didn't always mean you get the biggest baddest engine most of the time you had option on a big block w/ different hp ratings or small block 350 car. It was this way for the first gens and I believe into the early second gens.
What he said....for the most part. The 67 Camaro was available with a V8 outside of an SS. Yes to get the 350 required the SS in 67 being that the 350 was new to that year. There are plenty of 327 67 Camaros.

Because the 302 was a special built engine not available in any other model for racing. You want a low rent mild tuned up truck engine to save money, that is NOT a Z/28 but a V8 LS or LT Camaro. I don't find fault with your idea of a cheaper V8 Camaro, just that no way in hell would it be a Z/28.

It's funny that some SS owners don't want a Z28, why? Or if they are ok with it it must have less HP, why?
The Z28 was originally a race car not drag car for the street. That's what I'm looking for. Anyone else with me?

That 350 in the SS was rated at 300 HP, and the 302 Z/28, 290 HP (1st gens.). That 300 horse SS always blew the doors off the Z.

I agree with the guys who really wanted a heritage minded Z/28. Sometimes it's not just about getting 700hp on your current SS. It is nostalgic. I know that since the C5 is "modeled" after the first gen I would really like to see a 5 liter small block as the power plant if you are going to call it a Z/28. Is that going to happen? Probably not but depends on how much history for the "enthusiasts" they are willing to keep with. I have said many times that the car should get it's own engine, but these days it almost seem impossible and costly. Therefore I have been a huge proponent for what I seem almost could be a possibility. A 5.3 liter DI engine seems probable to produce 450-475hp that could be in the works currently at GM because they currently have a 5.3L engine available but for trucks/SUV's. Has anybody ever heard of a 327 in a camaro before? That's what my point is. That would be Nostalgic enough for me.

Comments about the LS3 getting a power bump to 450-475hp or putting a LS7 in the Z/28 and the fact that none of that has anything to do with heritage. Also comments about the BOSS getting a 5 Liter engine that produces 450 hp. I don't see why an engine like the LS327 or a DI varian't couldn't make it into a Z/28.

It could, but that's all if GM wants to build it. My feeling is make it rev, make it handle, make it appealing, and give it some power around 450-480, because the current car is a little on the heavy side of things. The cost is going to be the biggest factor. It would have to be an engine that is used in more then one type of vehicle to keep it cost effective. So LS3, LS7 or even LS 327 could be an option. The only heritage piece I can see using is make it appealing, handling, and price other then that I will just drive my old cars for the direct heritage fix.

I for one would like to see a COPO package. For me putting the LSX 454 for the LSX376 motor with fuel injection would be cool. Have the LS or LT cloth interior and the new steering wheel design for 2012 and the hopped up ZL1 performance Drivetrain and steelie rims with police dish hub cap and in red, black, or silver and price it right, I would scoop one up. It would be powerful, fun and track read for road coursing or drag.

As for the Z28 I think it would be neat for a v6 turbocharged or supercharged option producing a good 375 and have the ZL1 drive train and performance gear toward road course. Or like someone else pop in the LS 327 for the same amount of horsepower naturally aspirated.

my dream Z/28.... serious suspension, put the car on a diet, zr1 carbon ceramic brakes, and a tweaked ls3.

and why do people say that a blown z06 will beat a zr1 on the track? No one thinks the tires, suspension, chassis, cf body panels, or maybe the massive carbon ceramic brakes add anything else? ya ZR1 is untouchable for the money with a warranty

Stop putting a V6 in a Z/28. That would be an epic failure. :(
