Chrome Hurst Shift Shaft on Stock Shifter?

I was just wondering if there would be a way to use a Hurst chrome shift shaft with the stock shifter. I'm not really interested in a shorter throw as much as the look of the chrome Hurst shifter. There are folks on eBay selling the leftover parts from Hurst installs where people go with the stock shift knob. Not really interested in a big welding/machining effort, I just want the look. Any inexpensive ideas?

Won't work because the stock shifter is a one piece unit. The aftermarket Hurst has a lower shifter piece with holes that the chrome stick bolts to.

Yeah, I know how the Hurst is built. Still makes me wonder if I could cut and drill the stock shifter and bolt on the Hurst lever the same way it works with the Hurst aftermarket lower piece.

I don't think that it is possible. As said above, the stock shifter is one piece round, the Hurst is two piece and flat and groved at the mating surfaces of the shift rod and the chrome Hurst lever. Just go with the Hurst kit, you will love the short throw.
