ARH Longtubes arrived last night . . . a couple of questions for DIY installers . . .
Can I create enough clearance under the front of the car to install these headers using jack stands?
I have all the necessary tools, but no access to a lift. Floor jack and jack stands are my only DIY option. Advice greatly appreciated. Cheers. |

Yes, you definetly can do it on the floor w/ Jackstands. I di mine on the Camaro on a bud`s lift this time. My last set of ARH`s on my 06 Vette I did on Jack stands in the garage, no problem. The headers themselves will be a breeze. The tuff part is mating everything up at the axleback on the floor. It doesn`t give you much room to finagle things. It can be done but it may extract some choice words and phrases from your vocabulary...such as... The headers and the X-pipe really go up easy, and if you have trouble w/ the rear portion you could always install the headers and the x and then take it to an exhaust shop to have them mate the rear up.

Here is my write-up on the ARH header install. Yes, you can do it on jackstands. Make sure you have a Sawzall and all the required tools before removing the OEM system though.

I did mine on jackstands. It was aggravating crawling around under the car but it got done.
Tip: After making the install, loosen all clamps to make minor adjustments in the routing. It's is difficult to adjust one connection without loosening the clamps on either side of the one you are working on. Make sure it is not too close to the floorboards or the driveshaft and that the OEM mufflers are settled properly in their hangers. Don't forget the 4 aluminum spacers for the crossmember.

I did mine on a jackstands with a creeper... the creeper will save you at least an hour not having to inchworm your way in and out from underneath the car, definitely recommended!
And +1 to everything CWIweldace said... be mindful of ALL clamp positions before you cinch everything up, make sure by adjusting the position of the pipes you havent accidentally backed any of the pipes out... and cinch those clamps down SUPER tight or you'll have leaks.

Assemble everything loosely then work from the headers back adjusting as you go. please be sure to use at least 4 quality jackstands don't want to see anybody get hurt using cheap stands. If you have any questions PM me or call the shop 631-608-1986

Not yet. Just turned 1250 miles. Going to wait until I have her serviced at 1500 miles. Then I'll install and tune. Anticipation . . .
I'll take pix and post once I get started. Cheers. |
