2nd hand feedback from a C6 owner

I’m definitely waiting to see this thing come out into production, and am on the list to purchase one. . My cusin got one for his C6 corvette and did some interesting testing of his own. He bought a gauge that measures pressure (not sure of the specifics), and ran tubing from the inside cockpit to a location on the intake ahead of the mass airflow but behind the filter (I think I have that right). He drilled a small hole to take the pressure reading. Anyway he recorded the pressure values at various speeds up to 120 mph and says the results were very impressive. He swares by the design and its effectiveness, His only complaint is durability, seems its cracked/broken a couple times and has had to rivet and JB weld the intake to make it operational again. I hope this new manufacturing process talked about in the thread will address any concern that this could happen to the camaro design.

It called positive pressure and get ready to put you flame suit on as some of the guys don't believe me or you as for the seems its cracked/broken a couple times it dos happen on the corvette units as i think that is the old tooling and the new way is the G8 and the Camaro. ( ps i am ready let the flaming start)

Yes, I think my cusin said he got upwards of 1/2 psi positive pressure (depended on both speed and throttle position I belived), Anyway, it made him a true beliver. I'm glad there has been some durability improvements since his unit. (besides, I took a trip with him to Willow springs, so I know he does not baby that car)

I got to ride in this car Sunday Night........all I can say is NICE!!!

The only issue PowerFreak has is the whiplash his passengers are going to get. The Butt Dyno says 20-30HP gain minimum. I think half is the tune and half the intake............very nice improvement.

One thing I hate to hear is the complaining about a Vararam tester and how he did a before and after tune on two different dyno's on different days.

That member has repeatedly offered up the information and has not tried to hide this. So, for all the complainers out there, lay off....I mean really, now... WE KNOW it was two different dynos and two different days.

Vararam will release numbers soon. I'm sure we'll all be impressed. One thing to consider is the fact that you could get different hp readings depending on when you dyno test.

you can...

dyno test a bone stock and then toss on the unit and get some #'s. Great.

Or...

You can dyno test bone stock, toss on the unit, and then give the computer some time to adjust to the new added air intake. ....dyno it later on down the road after a few miles have been put on the engine under the same weather conditions. Who wants to bet me you'd get better numbers on the 2nd run?

at 40rwhp w/ out a tune the no tune unit makes more power than the new FAST intake for much less money...Sweet! Shoot, and headers seem to be 25-30rwhp w/ out a tune at much more money... This be the shizzy my bro`s!

In all seriousness anyone that thinks they will get more than 25rwhp from a CAI w/ out a tune on a stock motor is smokin the good stuff man... W/ a tune and the no tune needed CAI 35-40rwhp is possible.

In saying that 25rwhp will get you about a 2.5 et reduction and 2.5mph in the 1/4 which ain`t too shabby for a fancy air box.

Flame suit on...

Yes but Vararam said .3 et reduction and 3mph in the 1/4 so dos that mean that it is up to 30 hp no tune?

Very possible, "IF" it is somehow able to create some type of small pressure or ram air effect at higher speeds. On the Dyno its not going to put down 30rwhp w/ out a tune on our cars. I truly believe you are going to see 18-25 rwhp on the no tune unit w/ out a tune on a dynojet ran back to back vararam intake vs stock intake. This on a stock motor. W/ a fuse pull before you run each, same coolant temps ect.. Using the same dyno and SAE corrected numbers is a also a must.

I am a bit concerned w/ heat soak on this units MAF/IAT location, sitting in the staging lanes at the dragstrip for a while running could cause the computer to really pull timing, of course once you get moving it will cool down quickly but how fast will the computer add the timing back in? This will at least hurt 60 foot times I would think. Now on a cold day and not sitting in the staging lanes long it should have no effect, or driving on the highway or running a road course, sufficient air should be coming in the intake to keep the IAT happy and not reduce timing w/ this unit. Other than IAT/MAF placement, which unfortuanetly w/ this design the packaging is limited and there is no easy way around it, and the butt cheeck look, I really truly love this design. It should work pretty darn well, I just don`t see it making more power than headers and high flow cats. Also it doesn`t look to work w/ a supercharger. My plan is to run one of the Whipples when they come out. I know for certain they create a positive pressure increase in the intake...

Overall I think it will be a great performer, I just hate to see crazy outlandish numbers bandied about, I sure see no signs of those crazy high numbers on the G8 board. But most threads are positive, with a few detractors, but most seem to have picked up good power with it. I`m sure anyone who buys the Vararam won`t be disapointed if they are realistic.
