Another wrecked Mustang..
Here is the story, posted on Channel 10 news.
------------ SAN DIEGO -- An active-duty Navy sailor stationed in San Diego continues to fight for his life after losing both of his legs in a crash along Interstate 5 Monday. 10News learned 18-year-old Douglas Hill, a Navy sonar technician, has an affinity for fast cars and, according to his last Facebook post, street racing was not something new to him. According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened as Hill swerved his red Ford Mustang from southbound Interstate 5 to the eastbound State Route 94 interchange at a high rate of speed. Twelve hours before the crash, Hill posted the following on his Facebook page: "just got back in, had fun running the freeway with another cobra, a gt, and a lightning. its been a successful day." Hill's mother, who lives in Tennessee, posted the following on Facebook shortly after Monday's crash: "I just got a call from a hospital in California that my son has been in a serious automobile accident. I am getting ready to fly out. Please keep him in your prayers." She later posted: "Douglas is in the trauma unit. Please pray!" and "Douglas is in surgery right now. I couldn't get a flight out until 5:30 a.m. I will post as I know more." CHP officials told 10News one of Hill's legs was severed at the scene of the crash. His other leg had to be amputated by surgeons at Scripps Mercy Hospital. Hill and his passenger, 19-year-old Joshua Songer, were ejected from the car, according to the CHP. Songer, who is also an active-duty sailor stationed in San Diego, only suffered a deep gash to his cheek, the CHP said. CHP officials told 10News alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and authorities are still searching for the other cars involved in the race. Skid marks at the scene indicated Hill's car was going as fast as 90 mph when he crashed. --------------- Just goes to show that people can be irresponsible and often put innocent others at risk. This is a very unfortunate event, more so since it was a fellow Sailor. A reminder to the young Camaro owners out there, just because you have a powerful car, and it can go fast, doesnt mean that you need to, or have to. Take care of yourselves, and take care of others. |

OMG, that is a horrible seen. Unfortunately, people are going to street race no matter what. Maybe this story can change someone's mind before trying this.

either he lost control or tried to get off on the 94E exit at the last second. For you Squidly's in here, just remember, if you are in an accident and you are at fault and reckless. The Navy has the right not to pay for your medical bills or payout your SGLI (in the event you were killed in the accident). Accidents like this are always the topics to go over at safety briefs. Mainly aimed at young Sailors or Service Members returning from delpoyments. I can guarentee that the Navy will not pay for the medical bills on this incident and the other Sailor in the car will likely go to Captain's Mast or Court Martial.

It may sound F-ed up but luckly there were 2 people involved. Not collecting vehicle(s) with a family(ies) when swerving from the middle lane to the impact zone.

WOW... That was a Cobra too.... Sad to see, doesn't look survivable to me. No legs, no driving. Shouldn't endanger people's lives like that, his own included.
