Shinny is pretty the plastic is better. Shinny = heat! On a COLD air intake that = bad.

Now if u want to drive to San Antonio I can hook u up on a roto fab

see i hear aluminum heats faster and cools faster, than the plastic takes longer to get hot but yet takes longer to cool off?

From what I understand, neither plastic nor metal is different under driving conditions. Both materials will equilibriate with the temperature under the hood but the air flowing through the tube is not in contact with the material long enough to change the temperature from outside your vehicle to the engine.

It's a personal preference of what you want under the hood. I chose plastic because it isn't as susceptible to finger prints and scratches as aluminum.

If you're really concerned about the engine bay heating the air up in your cold air intake tube, get the aluminum and then wrap it in the same thermal shielding that's used for exhaust headers such as this:

I was in the same predicament as you.

But I just realized that my intake is actually metal (aluminum, I think ). It's just finished in black so it "looks" like plastic.

check out janetty thread on V6 CAI, I chose Injen polished aluminum and absolutly love it. Serious fun today with air temps around 20 degrees. Very sad though that it may be the last til spring as they are spraying the roads getting ready for snow tonite

this is what the k&n website shows....look at the HP on both the aluminum and plastic..

is that true? 13hp at 6200rpm vs 14hp at 6200rpm

Manufacturer's claims are easily manipulated. All of the intakes are close(I believe 5hp) in performance. Some are cheaper than others. I went with the K&N Typhoon (the shiny one).
