Almost traded my Camaro this weekend

I went into a local dealer to look at the 2014 SS models. Some things I noticed:

* I sat in a 1SS and was pretty underwhelmed. Aside from the V8 engine and MyLink it was pretty much what I already had. There was no sunroof and really no incentive to spend $33k on a new car.

* I sat in a convertible. The top was down and I liked it, but I immediately noticed the roofline seemed a lot lower than non-convertible models. My head was over the roofline and I'm only 6'2". I felt like I would have to sit even lower than I do now to fit in.

* Chevy really doesn't believe in adding a sunroof to the car. Over 40 cars on the lot and the only one with a sunroof was a ZL1. I thought that was pretty astounding.

And then I noticed the new Silverados... and test drove one of them. It was a really nice truck. I mean REALLY nice! But I decided to insist on sleeping on it and then deciding and I've decided not to get into a truck right now.

So, still have my blue 1LT and still love her.

Here is something interesting, I am 6' 5", and recently made a decision between a coupe and convertible. The roof in the convertible seems lower, but actually isn't. I have more headroom in the convertible with the top up, than a coupe. WAY more headroom than a coupe with a sunroof. We went with the convertible 2ss.

If you're concerned about headroom, you probably don't want a sunroof, the headliner is even lower.

Not sure what you mean about the convertible roofline being lower with the top down? you mean the top of the windshield? Only place that really bothers me is at stop lights, if you stop in the wrong place, yuo're stuck either ducking to look under it, or looking up over it.

The V8 alone is a pretty big deal but there are still quite a bit of upgrades you're not seeing. FE4 suspension, electric power steering, MyLink with rear camera (actually that might be a 2SS option...not sure), should have a power passenger seat. Those are just a few off the top of my head.

If you're still happy with your 1LT then no need to trade up. Keep what you have and see what the 6th Gen will look like. You can either step up to a V8 then or get a killer deal on a 5th Gen.

I would wait for the 6th gen, if you dont like it there will be plenty of 10-13 SS bein traded in for the new ones, probably get yourself a better deal.

The first fifth gen Camaro I test drove was a coupe and I told my wife I didn't like how low the roof was my head was pretty much rubbing.( I'm 5'11") I ended up buying the vert and I have lots of head room with the top up.

I've got the new car bug too, mainly because I've never owned a new car before and want to say I've owned at least one brand new car in my life, lol. I've had close to brand new (1,175 miles on my 03 Lightning at purchase) but never brand new/first owner/collect all window stickers, build sheets, etc....lol.

I was actually looking at cars this Sunday. Why Sunday you ask? It's my favorite time to look at cars. Peaceful, quiet, and no salesmen bothering you. I actually noticed a few other people looking at cars while I was browsing around, guess I'm not the only one. And thankfully the Chevy dealer I stopped at (I was also at a Dodge dealer looking at the Challengers) has all their Camaros (I counted 19) outside and not locked up indoors. They had everything from a ZL1, 1LE, Hotwheels edition to LS, RS, 1SS, and 2SSs. They had everything and OMG I love the rims on the 1LE! So aggressive looking! Car was a little too pricey for me at the moment. They had one car of interest, a 1SS/RS non auto only $1000 more than the Lightnings where selling new back in the day.

I know the next gen is around the corner but... well... I like the current gen enough to be satisfied for many years to come. Plus who knows, I don't like the look of the next gen Mustang so the next Camaro could always be a flop as well. I just don't think they're going to be able to match the look of the current one. I also loved the dark grey Challenger SRT-8 with the black chrome rims... It sure was a looker as well and if I had the funds for it I might go that route as well but I still believe the Camaro is the best "all-around" vehicle between the three major pony cars...

Interior wise, the only difference between yours and a 1SS is the MyLink. Unless you bump up to a 2SS there will be no more differences interior wise.

Sunroof has A LOT to do with where you live. I still see about 60-70% have sunroofs here unless it is a complete base model.
