Custom Paint Job

Looking into have the camaro repainted. Wanting to get a custom paint job and got eyes set on the jet stream blue. Any ideas on how much paint I will need to repaint the car? Thanks

Funny, but seriously. 1 gallon? 2+gallons? I'm going to have the paint made and tAke it to a paint shop. I have a buddy that works close by and it would end up being cheaper for me to buy the paint and a paint shop do the painting.

Call the paint shop you plan to use and ask 'em how much they need for the job - they would know better than anyone else.

I am told that painting over the factory paint can seriously de-value the car. You might consider a wrap instead. It's reversible, and will preserve (and protect) the factory paint. Just a thought; helping you to consider all options before taking the leap.

I will get ahold of my paint shop and ask. I know the paint I want is like $600 a pint lol. ZR1 blue . As for the value, I don't plan on sellin the car t all. If I do it will be as a private sale and most will know this paint job is well beyond the value of the factory color. I personally don't like wrapping as its not as correctable as paint can be.

A gollon is the usual quantity bought, however, it takes less than a gallon to paint a car. It looks like you are changing the color of the car (based on your red icon pic) so you wil need the door jams, underhood and trunk done as well. That will significantly increase the quantity of paint required, also double the cost of the paint job, and reduce the chances that you will be happy with it (because people will easily tell you changed the color). You will also need to buy a gallon of reducer, and a gallon of matching clear coat. It's been quite a while nice I last bought paint but $200 would buy you top quality paint back then. $600 seem extremely high.

Brutal is correct, if you are changing the color of the car you will significantly reduce the value of the car. I would reconsider the wrap.

First off thanks for the reply.
I do plan on having EVERYTHING repainted. The paint on these cars is horrible and I'm already seeing defects after 7k miles and would rather not take the time to take it into the dealership for paint problems again. I also want something unique. I will be providing the paint and clear for the shop. As for the price, this paint is very expensive, and as most of us also know corvettes are produced in an entirely different plant and their paint is well above that of the camaro in quality. So its a good choice all around for me. ( more durable paint, better looking). Again, talking about the resale value....its not important to me, I plan on never giving up this car

I think you should just let the body shop use the paint and clear they are familiar with. Base your decision of who will paint your car on their quality of work and materials used. What are you doing, trying to save $150 ?

Corvette having more durable paint, I got some swampland for sale in Florida too. Durability comes from the quality of men and material doing the work.

There is no avoiding the inevitable. You will pay out the ass to have this done, or use favors for some breaks, or it will look like shyt.

As far as the amount of paint, being that you have to redo all of the door jams, engine compartment, etc, I would guess 3-4 quarts. If you were just scuffing it and repaint it the same color(no jams) 2 quarts seems to be the norm. Make sure you post pics. I was lobbying for Jetstream Blue before these cares even came out...I wish GM would have listened.
