My car was rained on while driving it home from the dealer. What is different from the water test they do in the factory or washing it and a little rain. Never understood people's the issue with rain? It is a car and they are designed to survive rain. Just drive it and enjoy.

I understand the desire to keep the car looking its best. I haven't driven my ZL1 in the rain yet, but it isn't my daily driver. For me, I don't even like to drive the car if it is dirty (read dusty).

I don't care about any of my other cars, but the Z is special. Don't worry what other say or do. If you want it immaculate then go for it. If you want to drive it as a daily driver, that's cool too. Whatever floats your boat.

The guy that bought it said that I must have spent a lot of time detailing the engine compartment for it to look that good, and I told him that I had never driven the car in the rain and never detailed the engine compartment. I really enjoyed that car but when I sold it I realized that a lot of time that I could have enjoyed driving it was missed because I didn't want to take the chance of it getting any rain on it. I am the same way with my bikes.
I have promised myself that when the '13 gets here, that I am going to enjoy it more and not be so anal about keeping it immaculate like I did the last one. I also have a '98 Twin Turbo Supra I bought new for my wife that would past for showroom condition today, doesn't have 70K miles yet.

In short, I know where you are coming from, but I think we cheat ourselves out of some of the fun that our toys could give us if we were not so anal about perfection.
I am no help to the OP, because I am anal to a fault. Causes problems.
But the last phrase in your post sums it up. I am trying to change my behavior concerning my car, but it's slow and painful.

Been almost a year and I've never even had to wash it. Dust it off every time I park it. A little quick detailer here and there and she's good as new. Rain sucks! What's the point of driving a car with 600HP in the rain anyway. I have a hard enough time getting traction when it's dry!

On a slightly different note, I almost always have either washed my car the night before or the day of getting together with my car group, even to go to the drag strip. That means some weeks I've washed it three times.

Anyway, so it was dirty Thursday when we went to the strip. I had been out of town and just met them there. One of the guys was kind enough to come up and point at the door and say "you have bird poop on your door." HEY, I Know, thanks for pointing it out captain obvious. But whatever, Bertha and I are going to have some quality time Saturday

If you don't drive them, or afraid of the rain then you are missing out.

Why keep your car showroom perfect nice for the next owner.... Get out and enjoy it!

That's why we write the big checks to have toys like this anyway

I have issues...

My issues with driving in the rain aren't really about keeping her clean:
1) Loss of traction
2) Flash flooding (always a problem in Houston)
3) Air extractor allowing water inside the engine bay

First 2 = potential loss of my baby!!
Third one: I know the ECF is designed to keep water away from sensitive areas, there's just something about a 'drain hole' in the hood that makes me cringe if it rains on her....

I just like to keep mine out of the rain if at all possible. I've been caught a few times in the rain I just make sure they don't dry in sun light. Don't want water spots.
