BR7EF plugs here for the last 3000 miles. My tuner highly recommended these plugs and loves to tune with them. Pat Guerra tuned the car. I have had not a single issue.

What is the number of the ZR1 plug? In other works what do I ask for at the Auto Parts Store?

Good info. Guess I will have to switch and give them a try. I also get some misfires on startup with the TR7's... Maybe the ZL1 plugs would help with that. Guess it's worth a shot for $80.

ZR1 plugs are good but for people pushing 850+ I think they are a bit too cold.

They are a 6 heat range by the number system we are all now used to. The NGK system, and others. I'm thinking 600 or more at the wheels through an auto should be a 7 heat range and shouldn't be protruded if using nitrous. I'm using an 8 right now and I think it is a little too cold. Not staying clean. Gotta find that balance between holding enough heat to stay clean, but not so hot at WOT that they melt, or cause detonation. But some, like Jamie are having a ton of luck with the ZR1's at big power levels. Of course if he melts something he has enough extra parts to sell off and pay for a rebuild. LOL. But what do I know, I'm still in the figuring and deciding process myself. Not the easiest choice to make.

There are specific plugs with specific heat ranges for specific applications

with that said, the only way to tell if you have the proper heatrange is to check the plugs. There really is no all around plug for every aspect of ones application. ESP when you start messing with forced induction.

I run the NGK TR6 I have not noticed any issues yet with them my tunner told me to run them so I did I am 90 percent sure he is also running an ngk not sure how cold and he is near 1100hp I was suprised when he said not to waste my money on the ZL1 plugs. I dont have an opinon as I have not run the ZL1 plugs but I am pretty happy with the NGK thus far.

I know JRE has pushed the ZR1 plugs past 800 before, and he highly recommends them as well. I thought the delayed starting was because of my injectors, turns out the plugs weren't getting the job done. Drove the car 60 miles yesterday and didn't have a so for stutter, cough, and it didn't search for idle either.

Are some of you changing your plugs out at the track to a colder one to use with the blower and Nitrous and running a hotter one on the street to keep from fouling?

this is my policy at the shop for FI apps:
up to 600rwhp zr1/tr6ix up to 750 rwhp tr7ix 750+ tr8ix mind you this is a general rule of thumb I very things from application to application... if I am hitting a car with a lot of nitrous we'll like move into a non-projected tip plug, but that doesn't mean I recommend them as a DD plug. cruising and 200+ shot of nitrous are two very different things. |
