Raising the Diff.

I Thought I would share this here.
After trouble with the half shafts seems I had to raise the differential or raise the car back up. I decided to raise the differential as high as I could go keeping the driveshaft a safe distance from the gas tank. End result is 1.2 inches in the rear of the diff. .9 in the front. It was different because I had to maintain the alignment for the driveshaft mount.

The Problem. Heavy halfshaft angle.

Stock

After

During!!

Excellent job. The CV angle on these cars gets horrible when lowered and so many guys dont know how they are destroying the half shafts whether stock or aftermarket.

They have bushings that offset the diff higher 3/4 but seems like you got much more.

Can you post up a view of your axle angles as the car sits on the ground now? How much of a degree change did you make?

Thank you.

Its hard to get a good pic to show the angle with the car on the ground.

I can say I had to cut a good bit to raise it. My only limit was the driveshaft to gas tank clearance. I had to notch the shield and still have about 1/2 inch safety.

In the end I raised the half shafts about 1.1 inches. I reduced the angle about 3 degrees or more.

Car rides just as well and no side affects that I can see. Took me about 20 hours with my plasma cutter, sawzall and welder. Im no professional so I take my time.

Just an update...

Riding the same ride height today. No more axle issues after the mod.

Thats real good to hear, we have been working on a different axle design to help with also. seems the cross groove joints dont like to keep stable after about 7 degrees. We have a few test ones out and the results have been real good.

raising the Diff is whats the cars really needed from the factory.

Except if you go with a wider driveshaft it will hit the gas tank then. Need to lower the uprights imo.

He cut up the entire cradle and moved the actual mounting points up. Not a job for a beginner.

Correct.
I cut and flipped for forward mounts as they are recessed.
Notched the cradle for the cv joints,
Then installed everything back and adjusted the rear mount to angle the diff to be // to the driveshaft. Then measured and drilled that hole. And checked all my clearances. Including the axle end play!

Pulled everything apart again, finish welded and painted. Reinstalled and done.
