Vortec

Ordering a '13 1LE as soon as pricing comes out. I know people who can get me a great deal on a vortec of my choice. I have not decided wether or not I want FI. I will wait till after break in to decide. But, I want to know why I rarely hear about vortec here. I hear of plenty of pro charger setups and maggies but not vortec. I have seen some of the builds those blowers are capable of and ridden in a few of them. Never disappointed, of course. So why no love here?

My guess is that because for the price, Vortech, doesn't offer the same power out of the box as you can get from others. Vortech's V3 only advertises 725hp, whereas for the same price you can get a bigger blower.

uhhhh what?

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=222161

I made 573 RWHP and almost cracked 500 RWTQ with pretty much just a Vortech V3 kit, headers, and a good dyno tune.

Blowers in the same price range as the V3 have similar output. It can be argued that Vortech makes more power than any of them in its power range. So saying you can't get as much power out of the box is very misleading and incorrect. It depends where you want the power.

A lot of people like the Flavor of the Month Maggie because of its easy install, immediate torque, and minimal maitenance. And since so many people have one, there are great tunes available for it.

Those who want something a little bigger in the PD area go with Whipple.

For those of us that prefer the centri route, it comes down to ProCharger and Vortech. I debated on this decision for almost a year. I was actually more of a ProCharger guy at heart. However, the routing and intercooler setup on the Vortech is very impressive. Being in Chicago, we get wild temperature swings and I need to be confident in my IATs. With Vortech, cruising around my IATs are maybe 2-4 degrees above ambient. The boost in Vortech V3 kicks in hard at WOT around 3500 RPM and pulls like no other.

This is my first supercharged car after building all N/A, Heads/cam cars in the past. I do miss a little of the instant, snappy torque, but I absolutely love the insane power in the upper RPM with the centri blower. I don't ever see myself building another N/A car again. Boost is too much fun, and centri blowers like Vortech kick ass.

Vortec gets love here. There are many YSI kits out there making gobs of power. Mine is going on shortly.

Thanks for the info.

It sounds like the Maggie/procharger guys post more. The vortech is good just not as talked about.

I have probably the stupidest question....what's the deal with extra oil required on superchargers? Saw one for sale with two extra bottles of oil, and don't know what that means. Sorry, I'm an FI newbie!

The blower needs oil since it has moving parts. They do not draw oil from the engine.

And they require an oil change....when they are self contained.

Not all are self contained. Depends on the unit though.

Long tubes, conservative tune and stock fuel pump put down a consistent 540/500 with plenty of room to grow. My only complaint is the non-carb certification for those of us who live in the "People's Republic of California".

Screw Cali! Never going back if I can avoid it. Lol.

But I can see that being a problem. Aren't they based in Cali? Kind of ironic I think...

Vortech is more efficient than the Maggie also meaning its not taking as much HP to spin. No complaints here.. if I had to do it again I'd go with the Vortech all over again... and I don't know what all the talk is about Centri's make more at 3500rpms anyway.. if you hit the gas your over 3500 in a fraction of a sec anyway. Its preference... I like a nice torque/HP curve.. not a flat line. Vortech's are top of the line and have been around a long time. Talk to people that know.. like Ted from Jannetty Racing.. I believe he has one in his personal car.
